Catholic outreach?

I grew up with the ants on the back patio for best friends. It is difficult to be English in America. My father went to an English Catholic private school in England but then turned against his faith here in America. My mother, who was never baptised, considered herself Anglican (alternately, “heathen”). I attended an interdenominational church for awhile when I was young, with my whole family, and then attended a private Episcopalian boarding school where I loved going to chapel but never went to Church on Sundays in the main chapel as there were boys there and I was afraid of them.

So here in Florida I listen to the local Catholic radio station. Every chance I get. I played with the ants, but I always talked to God, sometimes not knowing it, knowing it less and less as I grew older and ran into animosity for my ways of expressing myself.

My question is, how do you join the Catholic Church? I read some of these threads and you all seem so closed to me. I want to attend church and I believe that the Catholic Church is the one true Church but I don’t know the language and I am older now (50) and it’s hard to learn. Also I am quite ill and in the midst of serious problems in my life and don’t have the ability to attend RCIA classes. But I want to be baptised and I want to take communion.

If you live in Monroe, Dade or Broward counties, you’re in the Archdiocese of Miami. The Archdiocese of Miami is a multi-lingual diocese. Call or write the Office for Catechesis and explain what you just said. They will point you in the right direction.

Hey there,

If you know of any ‘charismatic masses’ or churches in your area it is a great way to get in touch with the Holy Spirit really!! I highly advise it especially concerning your condition its an amazing way to make amends with the good Lord. Maybe search it up on google or something if you have time. While it is desirable that one attend the RCIA classes, one is never asked to do the impossible. A few years ago a lady in one of the retirement homes wanted to join the Church, but was unable to go out. We got a volunteer to go to the classes each week and then relay them to her. One of the priests then received her into the Church and administered the sacraments during his monthly visit to the home. The local parish should be able to arrange something similar for you.
