Just a reflection as a Religious Ed teacher…
Parents…Do not expect your children to be interested in learning the faith if you do not outwardly practice it as a lifestyle in your home. If you don’t pray with them daily, they will never see the value of prayer. If you do not attend Mass, they will not see the value of the Mass. In order to re-instill the value of our faith, you must live it at home and teach your children the value in being Catholic. Make your Domestic Church strong.

Amen x 1,000,000!!! 👍 I’ve definitely noticed this trend as well

I agree! My parents have done the bare minimum in supporting my faith. Recently, they have even begun to attack it. The only reason I am not a heretic right now is because of EWTN, Catholic Answers, Jimmy Akin, Tim Staples, and Scott Hahn, along with many other Catholic apologists and websites. To those who helped me grow in my faith, I am so grateful.

Amen!. As a Catechist I absolutely agree 100%. Wear you’re armor and swing you’re sword.👍

I couldn’t agree more, I teach Church school and my heart breaks for some of the kids.

As a religious ed teacher why do you think there are so many casual/cultural Catholics and cafeteria Catholics?

We have to get the word out to the parents that they need to take a good look in the mirror and make sure the Domestic Church is strong in their homes. Decades of no teaching in the home are now evident as many do not know their faith. We have to stop that trend now.

Jim-

As an Asst DRE I beg to differ and I beg you to have more hope for your students. You are writing off 3/4 of a typical parish population. We have children from families whose family do not attend Mass, yet the children develop into wonderful Catholics. On the other end of the spectrum, my own son would rather not go to Mass while his sister his one of the most eager lectors in our parish.

Oh and I differ one again with the thought that any parents on CA are not the parents who need to hear this message.

Teach your students and pray for them and their parents.

Parenting isn’t necessarily destiny, that’s true. And sometimes people win big in Vegas too. But as a general rule, the house wins. Parents who both live and teach their faith consistently have better odds of passing it on to their kids than the house has in Vegas.

I generally agree though sometimes I find myself being the one reminding my parents to go to Mass…
