I have a traditional Catholic prayer book with the sacred heart of Jesus on the front and a collect of prayers in it. Its called Common Prayers for Today from the Sacred Heart Monastery - Priests of the Sacred Heart.

. . .

wesley, hi. i have a couple of prayer books. i recently converted to the catholic church from the anglican church. we have the book of common prayer. i wish there was one uniform book for catholics with all of the prayers like what we had. maybe there is and i haven’t found it yet.

I think if there were one book of prayers that had all the catholic prayers in it, one might have a problem trying to carry it around.

I just found a prayerbook I had dearly missed for a year or so yesterday (it was buried under a bunch of books and other papers…looked for it 3 times before). It’s called The Handbook of Prayers, published by Scepter Publishers [third American Edition 1995]. Scepter are the same ones who publish the Roman Missal.

It’s very misleading in size. It looks like a pocketbook, not more than a half inch wide, but there are actually 594 pages. It has the Order of Mass and the 4 Main Eucharistic prayers in both english and latin, 84 prefaces, and pretty well prayers for all occasions, most major devotions (except I don’t recall seeing any prayers to the Divine Mercy in it [but it was bought in 1996]). A small section on how to be a better Catholic including a summary of
Christian Beliefs…etc…very good variety of prayers in it.

A good source of traditional devotions is Blessed Be God, now reprinted by PCP, though it is too thick for easy carrying. I especially like the prayers for Confession. I am starting a collection of prayer books with the hope of someday publishing a new one of traditional prayers.
