If the police conducted the raids as part of an ongoing investigation, then they’re not going to say anything till they’re done investigating. It also could be that they didn’t find anything useful.

Most of us who work in offices have also had times of being alone with our bosses, such as in an office with the door shut, or working late on a project, or on a business trip.
No woman should EVER go on a business trip with a priest. It’s scandalous at best.

Perhaps that’s the difference? You sin seriously outside the Church, you’re no longer a pastor. You sin seriously inside the Church, you’re moved to another parish? Or are there cases where priests are removed, now?
Today it’s covered up, and they are removed to luxury retirement homes. I personally know three priests in this “category.” I will say no more about it. The matter was dealt with in that manner.

How many people are living with the nauseated memory of having been abused sexually? Once this is committed on a child or young person they are scarred. The millstone and the bottom of the sea awaits the perpetrator. A priest that is homosexual could develop an obsessive need to engage in sexual relations, not having a ready partner, an innocent child could substitute very easily. IMO celibacy is not an excuse nor a reason to blame this sinful crime. IMO same sex attraction is a weakness and vulnerability to begin this process. The same holds for women that are obsessed with the attraction. These dangerous people are more vocal and visible in their acts and breeds more of the same.
Homosexuals do not necessarily have an obsessive need for sex. It’s the same as heterosexuals - some do, some don’t. God made these people, and he chose what’s best for them.

That’s true, but homosexuality is not a sin. It’s not a choice. God created people that way. Did you CHOOSE to be heterosexual? No. Even Pope Francis has said homosexuality is not a sin.

But that’s not the topic. Sinful abusive priests are the topic. When anyone abuses, he or she sins. Sexual orientation does not matter. I just said not all priests who molest are homosexual, and they aren’t. Many are heterosexual. Some are nuns! A female lay teacher at a Catholic school was physically abusive to me, not sexually. She gave me a black eye. She had anger issues.

I didn’t work for a priest. But my point here is that two adults working together may be alone together at times. I am also sure that quite a bit depends on the ages and positions of the two people involved as to “how it looks”. A priest traveling to a religious conference with a 60-year-old religious sister is probably not going to cause any scandal presuming they each have their own room. I go on pilgrimage trips with priests and sometimes one of us is “alone with the priest”, such as when I got separated from the group and he came to round me up and make sure I got back to the bus. The world doesn’t end. And it’s not like we are popping into his hotel room to hang out.

And presumably, priests work with other men and I would hope that the two men can go on trips together without causing a scandal, even if the man is a younger priest or a seminarian. Although given these abuse reports, perhaps a priest with a younger male priest is just as scandalous of a proposition as if he were with a woman.

And on that I will have to respectfully disagree…

It is however an issue between the individual and God…and not for me to judge them…

Let us lock ourselves away and withdraw from society lest we cause scandals! 😱

I don’t know. Sixty today is not what it used to be. Model Christie Brinkley is BEYOND sixty, and model Cindy Crawford is mid-fifties. Both are still very attractive. I know a sixty-something priest who left the priesthood to marry a sixty-something nun who obviously left the convent. And, obviously, since they left to marry, something was going on beforehand.

Where I come from seminarians were only allowed out in threes, don’t know about now.

In this day and age where if two men or two women are seen together the assumption is that they’re ‘romantic’… yeah. I think it’s necessary basic training. LOL

As an anecdote… people used to presume my cousin and I were lovers because she lived with me.

No joke.

The world is mad.

Nope, you can’t win. Three guys, they’ll assume it’s a love triangle 🔺😱

Haha. Oh man, we have derailed this thread…

I do agree that it’s nearly impossible to avoid scandal in this day and age. People are not charitable in their thoughts or their presumptions.
