Catholic radio stations report record growth, number set to double to 220

Charleston, Oct 24, 2007 / 09:03 am (CNA).- The number of Catholic radio stations is set to double, according to Catholic Radio Association president Stephen Gajdosik. The Catholic Radio Association has secured broadcasting licenses from the FCC for noncommercial educational FM radio stations across the country. The association has helped submit over 220 applications for new licenses in areas as far apart as Anchorage, Alaska and Key West, Florida.

How does this “work”? The only Catholic radio broadcasts I know of are Relevant Radio and EWTN and Ave Maria. Are there others, or will these three be used on the new stations that are secured?

Can anyone call themselves a ‘Catholic’ station? You know where I’m going with this…do Catholic stations have to be approved to be called “Catholic” in order to guarantee they are faithful to the Magisterium in there programming?
