I am wondering, do any of you regularly (or I guess not regularly too for that matter) listen to Catholic Radio?

Sometimes I listen to Ave Maria Radio, specifically Al Kresta’s “Kresta In the Afternoon” show because I find it rather interesting how he explains current events (but also other books and happenings) from the Catholic perspective that I feel most Catholics don’t or wouldn’t know about. Do any of you listen to Al Kresta or Ave Maria Radio in general?

Sometimes, but more rarely I’ve also listened to EWTN radio and that was similarly alright.

Do you guys listen to any of these that I’ve mentioned or other Catholic Radio stations? If so, what are your thoughts?

The reason I also asked is that some time back I was talking to one of my parish priests (it was regarding a different matter, but one way or another, the topic of Catholic radio came up) and he told me to be cautious of Catholic radio and not fully believe everything I hear there, largely because Catholic radio often tends to be very “critical” and “judgmental.” And also sometimes that they may analyze or make assessments on any given situation contrary to what Jesus would have wanted or done or believed.

Thanks for your thoughts.

WE have 1050 AM in my part of the PNW. I listen regularly and appreciate Catholic news, prayers over the radio (the Rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy) an on the air Mass Sundays (I listen while driving to Mass:)), Mother Angelica programming and various apologetics programs. It’s a blessing to be able to access Catholic radio in my area. It has been good for my faith life.👍

I listen as often as I can. Usually when I’m driving. I’m not sure why a priest would caution anyone about listening to EWTN. It’s all approved material. the only people who might say it is ‘judgmental’ are those who don’t like to be told that what they are doing is wrong.

We often listen to The Catholic Channel on our XM satellite radio in the car. Our favorite program is Gus Lloyd.

As you probably know, EWTN is about as orthodox as you can get. They have a great variety of guests so I am sure that errors have been spoken. I will not criticize your priest, perhaps he had some bad experience, or perhaps he is thinking of internet figures like Michael Voris rather than EWTN.

I mostly listen to WBBM News radio 780 in Chicago.

I do too.

I try to at least catch the Sunday morning Mass (not as a substitute for the Mass I usually attend).

When the EWTN station first came to my town I started listening to the Rosary and posted a question on here about whether EWTN is authentically Catholic; someone responded and assured me that it is.

Why is it that some people on here look at Michael Voris as if he were a “bad guy?” I wish I could understand but I don’t. His internet network puts out some mighty fine programs from where I can see. On his Vortex program he is doing nothing any different than Mother Angelica was doing when she was on EWTN before she became sick and couldn’t broadcast anymore. That is quite often exposing some of the shenanigans that are happening to hurt the Church, both within the Church and in society in general. Anyone is going to be offended, no matter who is on the mass media. Yes, Michael gets a bit critical at times but so did Jesus and the Apostles, and so do others even today.🤷 ( Moderator, please don’t shut this thread down until someone gives an explanation of my question. Thank you!)

Well he didn’t specifically mention EWTN or any radio or internet figure. He just said Catholic radio very generally. He told me that sometimes (therefore not always) they can be very judgmental and stuff like that. I don’t remember exactly what he cited but as an example I think he mentioned something about “they” at some Catholic radio may criticize a woman who gets pregnant without marriage and what not, trying to condemn her actions and my priest said that for instance, once a woman gets pregnant, Jesus would not really be saying the things that would be said by someone on the radio.

But I mean this is just paraphrased a lot and this was one general example that he gave. Personally I’ve not really found something like this in my experience nor do I think Catholic radio is questionable in any way; and even in current events when Catholics criticize certain political actions or people, well I have no problem with that. After all, everyone always enjoys taking a shot at the Catholics right?

I enjoy Catholic Answers, the Drew Mariani show on Relevant Radio (especially at 3 PM central!), Changed Forever, Right Here Right Now, anything with Father John Riccardo, Father Larry Richards, or Scott Hahn.

Thank God for TuneIn radio!!

If I could, I’d listen to EWTN and the Catholic Channel all day long, but I only have Sirius XM in my car.

I love starting my day off with Gus Lloyd. I love everything about Catholic radio. Love listening to Al Kresta too and I’ll switch over to the Catholic guy if Al’s show is too “deep” for me.

I love Catholic radio. Love it.

I like the Journey Home program too. I love listening to people tell their life stories and how they came to love Jesus and his church.

I thought I’d use this thread first rather than start a new one, to ask everyone out there if anybody has any good suggestions for a free Internet radio station that streams decent Christmas music, focusing on the real meaning of Christmas?

It’s our turn to host Christmas Eve dinner this year and I wouldn’t know where to begin to look for my old CDs, plus I can’t be bothered with changing CDs through the night. It just dawned on me earlier today, doh, why not find an online radio station?

I had a quick browse at a few and they all seem to be full of secular songs, or they’ve got hymns but are versions sung by pop singers. One of my pet peeves is when you have some pop star singing a hymn as though it were a sexy love song

Soooo, I preferably want a station that will only play Christian/Catholic carols/hymns, sung by choirs… Perhaps there will be something on TV that I can have playing in the background. Unfortunately being in Australia we (like New Zealand) have our midnight Christmas Eve before the rest of the world otherwise I would have put the midnight mass from the Basilica on the TV 😉

What about using TuneIn Radio? When I listen to Catholic Talk radio on it, I notice that some stations appear to be musical and are definitely Catholic. With Pandora, you can use all sorts of modifiers to get down to the music you want to hear. Both are available for phones and on the internet. 🙂

I have TuneIn, but couldn’t find anything yet. I will keep digging around. I’ll try looking at Pandora too, thanks 🙂

“Relevant Radio” in the car/live streaming/podcasts - for Catholic living, prayer, news from the Vatican, global issues, spiritual guidance, teaching, and more.

I have loved and listened to Catholic Radio since WEWN (EWTN Short-wave) started in 1992. Even got to thank Mother Angelica personally right in the beginning.

Catholic Radio is a great grace in this time. Love EWTN and The Catholic Channel on my Sirius Radio which I carry between my car and home. The Catholic Channel had some spectacular coverage of the Papal Election in March, it was like being there. Oh yes, Cardinal Timothy Dolan has a live call in show there. Hot Diggity, as the man says 👍

Love, love, love Catholic Radio, it’s a big part of my life. Be not afraid. I depend on satellite and internet, not blessed to have local yet.

I listen to a local show on the local Catholic radio station from 7-8(am). It’s fast paced with news, sports, weather, interviews, and daily Gospel reading along with a brief homily from a retired priest.

Big fan of The Catholic Guy Show on Sirius/XM’s Catholic Channel, but the show hasn’t been the same since Msgr. Rob left 😦

I absolutely love Catholic Radio. I listen to Immaculate Heart Radio out of Stockton, CA when I am on the road. I have been working as a Home Health Nurse for the past several years and usually have my radio tuned in. I lived in So Cal for years and loved visiting my family up here in Nor Cal because of Catholic Radio. I am overjoyed that now I can finally listen down in San Diego when we visit. Some shows I have to listen to on-line as the 1100 time slot has been filled with Sacramento events so when I’m home, I try to remember to tune in to hear The Lord’s Gym, or At Home with Jim and Joy, or Steve Ray if he’s back on. Listening reminds me to keep my mind and heart on God and not let the stressors of daily life get to me. The confusion taught during the late 60s and beyond have been cleared up and what I was taught in Catholic schools is still “right”.

I listen to Catholic Radio while I’m driving sometimes. Some of it is great, but sometimes it really gets to me. I am a pro life Catholic democrat and some of the rhetoric seems very politically one sided. For example, praising Newt Gingrich for being Catholic and ignoring the fact that he cheated on his former wife with his current (Catholic) wife. Just because he made a movie about John Paul II does not make him a good example of a Catholic. But some Catholic Radio is wonderful! Reciting the rosary along with the radio while I’m driving can be very uplifting.
