I saw something about a theologian accusing Catholic Relief Services of supporting condom use, or something like that? My computer wouldn’t let me bring up the whole article. Does anyone know if that’s true?
Catholic Relief Services is faithful to the teachings of the Church and it’s a highly reputable organization. I doubt there’s any truth to the words of that “theologian” but if you want to share your source, you could do so.I saw something about a theologian accusing Catholic Relief Services of supporting condom use, or something like that? They are calling it a mistake.Sean Callahan, CRS executive vice president for overseas operations, admitted March 31 that his agency did distribute the chart after being denied permission by Zambia to alter it so that it adhered to Church teaching.
“CRS gave (name removed by moderator)ut so our faith-based agencies would feel more comfortable with it,” Callahan said. “We do not now distribute it to any of our partners.”
In its stead, the Catholic agency has produced an educational document, “Protecting Life: Abstinence and Fidelity,” Callahan said.
“So, we have withdrawn the document,” Archbishop Dolan said, “but we and the board of trustees of CRS didn’t want to stop there; we said, ‘Let’s make sure this mistake is never repeated. And let’s make sure that our people in the field completely comprehend, understand and appreciate the Church’s teaching when it comes to chastity.’”

Sounds to me like Sean Callahan (or whoever allowed the distribution) needs firing.Looks like the Zambian government created materials that were not in conformity with Catholic teaching and CRS used them anyway.
They are calling it a mistake.
I am curious how such a mistake is made. Doesn’t a review of local materials take place before CRS uses them? If not, I’ll bet such is done now.
