Really?

Was it a virus or a pop-up blocker? That thing does have pop-ups.
You have to close anything that pops up.

I did some checking. Misterpoll is a public poll site. They place pop-ups on the pages. Don’t open pop-ups. Just close them off. I can’t say what they are.

If you’re running Microsoft XP with SP2, then you will get a prompt asking you if you want to install an ActiveX control. Don’t do that. I don’t know what it is. It doesn’t look like anything I would want.

If you’re running without a pop-up blocker, just close them off. I scanned the page with Norton, and found no virus. If you open the pop-ups, say to install some kind of search tool, you’re on your own.

Open any kind of pop-up with caution.

I sent the following to jpjd to see what his virus scanner detected.

Hi jpjd,

I saw your post about a virus on a poll I created at misterpoll.com and linked to on Catholic.com forum, and wanted to find out more.

What did your virus scanner detect? Can you identify what it was? Did you open one of the pop-ups?

If you’re running Windows XP with SP2, you’ll get a drop-down prompt asking you If you want to install some kind of ActiveX control, which of course, you wouldn’t want to do. If you’re running an earlier version of Windows, you’ll have to simply close the pop-up when the page loads, and not install what ever it is.

I never opted to open any of the things that pop-up on that site, or any other, so I can’t say what would happen if I did.

Please let me know what kind of virus you detected, and if it was on the misterpoll.com page, or one you opened from a pop-up.

I don’t believe there really is a virus on that page, but if there is, I sure want to know about it.

Thank you for your help.

I would never want to link someone to a virus, and I don’t believe that misterpoll.com is placing viruses on their site. Of course, I can’t say if the pop-ups could be a problem.

If any others who are computer-savy could check this link out, and comment, either by posting or by email to me, I would really appreciate it,

Thanx,
cargopilot

My sister says everything works fine with a Mac. She laughs at me and my Windows.

I have Windows 98 with NOD Antivirus. (Not to be confused with Norton.) I clicked on the link in your post and NOD brought up a window saying it detected a virus. The window wasn’t a pop-up from the link site. (My computer didn’t even bring up the actual poll page yet.) I can’t quite remember what the virus was…TrojanLoader or something like that. Trojan something.

I’m not blaming you…viruses can be anywhere.

Anyway…can you put the poll right in your post? I am curious what you are referring to when you say Catholic respect at Mass.

I don’t know, could I?

I’d like to put the poll, or something similar, right here on CA, but I’m kinda new at this thread thing. Could I copy/paste it to here, somehow?

Here’s the link, again.

I’m very interested in this poll, although my husband recently reinstalled the computer software and will likely terminate my user privileges if I get a trojan horse on his machine.

But…you do have the option to post a poll here. Click on “New Thread” like you did to create this thread, scroll down past the posting area, and at the bottom there is a little square that you can click to post a poll. You can choose how many poll options you would like, and I assume you will receive a prompt to actually type in the options. Considering the amount of polls we have in this place on any given day, I’m assuming it’s not too difficult.

Good luck!

I don’t go in the Sanctuary during Mass. I sit in the Nave of the Church. I only talk when I have to, such as correcting my son, or when I act as an Usher.
And in response to the Mass.😉
