In Revelation, the Christian Martyrs are shown understanding what is happening on earth and praying to God for justice for us

In Tobit 12:12 the Angel Rapheal says that he heard the couple’s prayers also

Yep you really need to have the complete and original Bible to find this.
No slight intended to our protestant brothers, but If you want to understand some of the Catholic positions on things it helps to have ALL of the books of the Bible.

What makes one person a saint and one not a saint? A public or private struggle?

I’ll jump in here.

You seem to be working under the misconception that someone becomes a saint when the Church says he does. Not true. The Church declares that some are saints, but that doesn’t mean that they. and only they. are saints, or that then became saints only when the Church declared it.

There have been many “the making of a saint” type books written. If you’re cuirous, check a catholic bookstore. If you don’t have one near you, try Amazon. If you don’t want to buy anything, I’m sure a Net search would bring up something on the subject.

Saints become saints because of their love of Christ and their perserverance. There have been so many thousands of Saints over the centuries and their holiness is unbelievable that no one, I repeat no one is worthy to even compare themselves to these people.
Out of 265 popes, there have been 68 that became saints.
This is why I love my Catholic faith. Our Holiness cannot compete with other denominations because they are not as holy as us. We are holy, just as Christ was.
