Catholic School vs Public School

One more question, my 2nd grader tells me that the teacher has a giant picture of Barack Obama in the classroom. I have never seen the picture and I would have definitely noticed it because I am not a supporter of Barack Obama mainly because of his attack on the Catholic Church. My child told me it is hung Underneath the chalk board so it is almost hitting the floor. It is at eye level with the children while they are sitting at their desks. Does this seem odd to anyone? Also, the entire school, K-8 was taught by the music teacher that during the singing of the National Anthem on Veteran’s Day they did not have to put their hands over their hearts. They could put their hands in front of them or behind their backs while singing with an American flag present. All of these things are putting a bad taste in my mouth. Is this normal and am I overreacting? Or is it strange? My gut tells me it’s wrong.

I would say those things definitely deserve further investigation. You might have a general respect for the office of the president, a liberal teacher in an otherwise decent school (we have one!), or a really huge problem with the school not being very Catholic. It is difficult to ask those questions though. Have you had open house yet? Maybe you could poke around a little more then.

There are many benefits to sending the child to a public school. You will be able to budget for supplies, school uniforms, family vacations, more children, etc. Maintaining the faith can be accomplished with after school programs, church, and the way children are raised at home.
