My son is engaged to a young lady who practices the religion of Wicca. I am very concerned about this. Has anyone had a similar situation and what is the best way to approach this issue. They engaged prior to us finding out her religious background, we asked, but they were always evasive. We finally forced the issue and were not happy with the revelation. Any information is helpful.

How serious is he about his faith?

EDIT:
I reread and realized that I misread!

You figure he would have been curious about this way before they got engaged?

Or was it that you guys only found out until recently?

I see that it seems like he was “hiding” this fact from you.
Is that more accurate to say?

Apparently, he knew this was her religion. But they kept it from us for quite awhile, until we forced the issue. My son is a Christian, but he has concerns regarding being Catholic, something else we just found out about recently. When he was going through Confirmation classes, he asked some questions that he didn’t feel satisfied with the answers. That started doubt in his mind, he then went off to college and in spite of our constant urging, he stopped going to church. I believe he is being lazy in his faith right now, something that can happen with college age adolescents. I don’t want to alienate them by saying something hurtful. I am praying for the right words and actions and seeking information to help.

He distrusts you. He thinks you’re going to yell at him or be angry at him for being engaged to a Wiccan. Tell him you love him, but you don’t like him being engaged to a Wiccan, and explain that you understand it is his life to choose. Tell him also why you don’t trust Wiccanism and ask him why he is okay with it. Get to understand each other better. Slowly he will begin to start trusting you again, and, perhaps, God will lead him back to his Faith. 🙂

Keep praying…of course.
Offer a prayer request in the Prayer Intentions forum.

This is tough because he is not as convicted in his faith as you are. Would you have the same concern if he were engaged to a Protestant?

I would be most concerned if he were questioning Christianity altogether. You do not want to sever your relationship by trying to intervene too much.

This is the vaguest I can get by saying you just need to be charitable with them and accept her as he accepts her. Get to know her better, hopefully that is possible, and talk to your son more about his faith and his journey in trying to understand this world.

Do not try to force beliefs on him. Just keep remembering that it is natural for him to have his questions and doubts (which can be healthy).

Always look for a good opportunity to discuss faith with him. Ask him about how convicted she is about being a Wiccan. And try to learn more about Wicca, from research and from him (hopefully they discuss this stuff.) If they do not…try to get him to see the importance of discussing this more because these could be problems that arise in the future of their relationship.

Sorry I am kind of offering generic advice here…

Thanks for your help. It’s hard to here someone say that my son doesn’t trust me. But the described response was exactly what I felt like. He also never discussed with us his doubts about the Catholic faith before, so that was a whammy too. I spoke with our priest and he said to be a good Christian by example and to open the lines of communication about faith with both of them. I will ask God for the strength to put my personal feelings aside and be accepting of the both of them.

You have a holy priest! Nothing better than a succinct response!

Just remember, this world offers so many varying opinions…he is going to wonder about truth and whether it really exists. Just be understanding that he has his doubts.
Father,
Please send the Love You share with Jesus and the Holy Spirit into the hearts of this family. Help them to understand each other and respect each other. Please do not let them become bitter towards each other and continue to always pull them to You!
Amen!

First of all, there is no distinction between “good” and bad witch or “white or black” magic or magik or magique whatever… It is all of the devil - Lucifer and his demons are behind the Wicca. No two ways about it.

If she does not renounce satan, and they decide to marry (I don’t believe it will be a catholic wedding) - it will end in divorce shortly thereafter. Unless he is swayed to some watered down, politically correct, tolerant form of christianity interspersed with pagan practices and occult “wisdom”.

We’re not just talking about a Catholic and a protestant getting married…we’re talking about a “Catholic” and someone who aware or inadvertantly is in league with Lucifer.

You know, Lucifer - the one that hopes to defeat Jesus Christ and His catholic church…that Lucifer.

There is a strong possibility that she may have already used her wicca to seduce your son and muddle up his thinking and reasoning. Desensitizing his catholic upbringing.

If there are any children from this “union”… they will also be in danger of demonic oppression.

I don’t care what anybody else tells you on this subject…this is a spiritually dangerous situation for your son and your future grandchildren.

Next time ask her to repeat verbatim, " Jesus Christ is come in the flesh". Verbatim! not just agreeing with you! That’s how you will no if she speaks with the Spirit of God or the spirit of the antichrist.

Vade retro Satana, non suade mihi vana.
Sunt mala quae libas, ipse venea bibas.

Crux Sacra sit mihi lux, nunquam draco sit mihi dux.

Wiccas do not believe there is a satan. What shall she renounce? “I renounce Cthulhu”. 🤷 😛

:rotfl:
Belief or denial is irrelevant. Lucifer and his demons are behind the wicca.

Call him cthulhu or beelzebub or any other of his ancient names - he is still Lucifer, Satan.

Here is a perfect example of how not to react. You have a good priest. Listen to your priest.
Hey …zuki,

This person is asking for information. You give yours “consult the priest” which is good, I agree with your advice also…

But don’t lessen mine to make yours appear better. This person asked for information…remember that.

Just thought I would tell you cthulhu is not an ancient name for the light bearer, it was made up by H.P.Lovecraft. It has no relation.

To the OP listen to your priest he sounds Good and pray that what God wants for him occurs and not what you want for him.

Lovecraft schmuncraft.

Wicca evil

Wicca with Lucifer…bad.

Consult Priest - good.

conversation with me…not important.

information given…that is important - it is done, I’ve said what I came to say.

love is greater than religion.

in mathimatical terms: love > religion

Amen! I would also encourage premarital counseling asap.

God Bless!

My 26 year old daughter has been a Wiccan her entire adult life, her fiancé is a Baptist. I asked him once how he dealt with her “religion” and he said,“I love her so really don’t care what she practices”.

You need to study up on the Wiccian faith. Know it better then your son does (and pray that while you study, the Holy Spirit protect you). Once you are better informed, you may have a better chance of reaching your son. Only problem is, if he is “In Love” with her, he is blind and deaf to any reasoning. Hopefully, once that “In Love” feeling passes, he will be more easily reached.

What ever you do though, keep the lines of communication open with your son. Pray and ask St. Monica to intercede for you as well, she understands these situations very well.

we should all build big walls that reach the sky
and never mingle with anyone outside our religion,
in fact, make it by race also, oh and class too.

remember, only blonde hair and blue eyes allowed.

heil mein kampf!

(at least he didn’t marry a black woman right? thank god!)

Teen and young adult women often feel powerless and confused about their lives including their love lives, and are tempted to engage in the occult as a result of it. They want access to knowledge of the future and power over others. That is the root of the sin, the lack of distrust in Divine Providence.

Hopefully as this young woman marries your son and feels more secure about her life path, she will feel less of a need for secret knowledge and power and she’ll let go of the occult.

Raising children will be either an opportunity to get it right or realize what a grave mistake they made. But only if your son has an adult conversion. If he remains lukewarm or lapsed or indifferent, it probably won’t matter much.

Pray much, love and serve. Be the witness of Christian love and truth that hopefully melts hearts eventually. 👍
