Hi everyone-

Hopefully I’ve posted this in the right forum.

For awhile now I’ve been prayerfully considering a career with the Central Intelligence Agency. In my opinion, the work they do is highly honorable and noble. In a world troubled by issues like terrorism, their work is more relevant than ever.

I was wondering if their was an official Church position on the CIA and their work. I can’t foresee a particular reason the Catholic Church should condemn the CIA, but I just want to be sure.

Thank you very much!

I would guess the majority of stuff the CIA does is above-board, morally speaking. I think a lot of the stuff you read about in spy novels and such is fanciful speculation and, well, fiction.

That said, there’s probably stuff that goes on there that is, as they say, on a “need to know” basis. Meaning you and I and the church don’t know about it to comment on it.
