Comedian Heywood Banks sang a song about a large Christ figure positioned along an expressway in Ohio IIRC.
Yeah, that figure he’s singing about was just the upper torso of Jesus with his arms raised up in the air. The locals (including a lot of my friends from Southern Ohio) called it “Touchdown Jesus” because of the position of the arms. In 2010 it was struck by lightning and burned down.

These are at the church I got married at in Queens, NYC.

Here’s the giant Our Lady Queen of Peace in New Castle, Delaware that overlooks I-295. She is 33 feet tall. I went down there last Dec 12 to pray my Rosary for the US Coasts and Borders by her. Hoped some other people would join but it ended up being just me and giant Mary.

This is an icon of my farovite Saint, Saint Olga of kiev. I love it!!!

Sometimes I wonder why there’s a depiction of a young Christ --with Mary & Joseph–holding a small cross, among our stained glass windows.

Thank you for that link Mintaka. Several years ago I read a book about the Holy Face of Mannopello, and saw a DVD about it also. Fascinating.

I thank the Lord for the gift of faith and will not rely on proof for the Lord’s Resurrecrion.

If items such as the Shroud of Turin helps others to be believers…so be it!

The picture is obviously a representation of the Trinity and the symbol is the Greek symbol for the “Indwelling Trinity” showing the “perichoresis” between the three persons of God.
Those are the four Evangelists in the corners

I love Chinese Catholic art. True, Jesus probably wasn’t Chinese, but he wasn’t Italian, either 😛
I guess the answer is ‘Roman History’ but I can’t understand why Jesus is so universally depicted as a Lombard in art. Syrian would probably be more accurate. And, if nothing else, at least vary it!

I didn’t notice the lights until you pointed them out. Normally lights added to a statue might be a little “cheesy” but in this case it works nicely. In fact, it gives me ideas for my outdoor statues!

Cheesiness is a big part of the appeal of Catholic statuary, don’t you think?
