Catholic Survey for Educational Purpose Only

Hi! I am a practicing Catholic and a mother of three children that attend a Catholic school here in the area. I am also in my senior year at Antioch Mcgregor in Yellow Springs, Ohio. I am taking a Social Research Methods course and am asking that anyone who has children that are enrolled currently in a Catholic school to please take my survey. It will take less than 5 minutes and my main research question(s) are to identify key reasons that we send our children to Catholic schools.

Thanks a million!! I have distributed this to the principal at my daughters school - but since we are a smaller school it would be nice to get a much larger response so that when I analyze the data - I will actually have something to analyze.

I appreciate your help!!

My main reasoning behind this is to identify key reasons why we send our children to Catholic schools & if there are disadvantages - what they are.

The survey was setup for one-liners, so I’ll put my thesis here.

The catholic schools system in America is one of the largest private educational systems in history and it was built by penniless immigrants. Today, catholics are among the wealthier demographics and we supposedly can’t even afford to maintain them. What’s up?

In those old days (~100 years ago), American culture was unabashedly hostile to catholicism. They hated us and had no hesitation in promoting protestant indoctrination in public schools. Our forefathers recognized the threat and built the miracle of the catholic school system against all odds.

Today, catholics don’t recognize the threat. Anti-catholic protestant notions have been banished from the public schools and catholics mistakenly believed that this meant they were now safe for our kids. How stupid of us. Public schools have always and will always reflect the values of the culture at large. The culture at large will always be fallen and hostile to our catholic faith. It may be a LOT more subtle than before, but the inherent incompatibility of the US secular culture and catholicism is REAL. To ignore it is to give up the catholic part.

Home schools and (authentic) catholic schools have been described as the monasteries of the next dark ages. Think about it.

Thanks for your thesis - However this is for my Social Research Methods Class - I am not arguing the public vs private - I have two concrete questions to identify within my literature review. Those are -
  1. What compels parents to send their child (ren) to faith based schools?
    and
  2. What are the advantages or disadvantages to sending your child (ren) to faith based schools?

I have had a wonderful response on here & I appreciate all of your (name removed by moderator)ut. It is very helpful. Can you believe that I sent out a script link to all of the parents of my daughters 4th grade class (Obviously @ a Catholic school) and have gotten no responses… (I am thinking - what am I doing wrong…) It is an odd thought.

hi danielle, I hope it’s ok, I took the survey even thought I pulled my daughter out of Catholic school this year. I’m hoping my answers might help anyway:)
