As Catholics, who should we support?

Taking into account, the way the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem describes the situationyoutube.com/watch?v=DFC-k9MgbaE
Shouldn’t it mean for us to support our brothers and sisters in Christ? Not to mention the Pope has shown his support for a Palestinian statehood, though I know since it is not doctrine we may disagree on his take.

PS, to mods, if this is in the wrong section of the forum, I am truly sorry. I think this issue does concern social justice. If I am wrong, forgive me.

I know some Palestinian Melkite Catholics from Nazareth and they support Israel. So I will go with the Catholic perspective of the Melkites.

The Church has not made this a matter of doctrine (thank God). Historically and throughout today, the Church is not clearly aligned with either the Israeli or Palestinian cause.

Before answering any question of whose side we should be on, I assume Israel and its existence not as a religious or Providential matter, but as a strictly political one.

As a practical matter, the Israeli government has done well and prudently with the Christian holy cites in the Old City. Christian Israeli Arabs also face better opportunities under Israeli rule. They also face, IMO, better civil liberties as minorities in Israel than as minorities in a fledgling Palestinian state.

However, Israel has to make further improvements on the welfare of its Arab citizens and residents.

If you’re a betting man/woman, the safe bet is probably with God’s chosen people. 😉

I have attended the Melkite Church for over 25 years now and have NEVER met a Melkite (or any Christian Arab for that matter) who supports the illegal state of “Israel”. I find that very hard to believe (and stomach)!

SUPPORT PALESTINE!!!

This is what I was thinking. I have contacts with Palestinian Christians. Mostly the Catholics over there. And have even seen a video from the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem who condemns the Zionist and their oppressive government.

I feel as a Catholic I can not accept a government that uses similar tactics as fascist in other ME countries, such as arresting peaceful protesters. Something that if happened here in America would be condemned and outrage everyone

I think many political matters are being overlooked. Such as their mistreatment of non-Jews.

FREE PALESTINE!!!

The state of Israel has NO right to steal the land of the Palestinians!
Hey brother, you do not have to yell at me. I already responded to you and said I am supporter of Palestine.

Chill out, we are on the same side lol

I doubt it.,

But first, what do you mean as betting man/women?
In other words, if you’re unsure which people to side with but want to take a guess, the more reasonable guess would be to side with God’s chosen people… seeing as God says repeatedly that Israel are His people.

However, the Bible also does say that not all who are descended from Israel are Israel.

The True Isarel of God consists of those who have been redeemed and obey God. The State of Israel is NOT Israel of scripture. The Israel of God is now made up of every kindred, tongue and people…for the most part the Palestinians are a displaced people because of the State of Israel…many of the Palestinians are Christians not deserving of their treatment.

There is no justice for them from the State of Israel. Just becasue Israel bears the name “Israel” does not give them license for colinization/annexation of land that hasn’t been their for 2000 years…they are NOT the Israel of God. They are a secular state consisting of many different nationalities…including Jewish.

The church is the new Israel!! Not some Zionist state in the Middle East.

Its kind of hard to do that, when one, they deny our Lord and Savior.

Two, I do not think God accepts Zionist who curse the good name of Jesus, and spit on Christians. Or the way they treat other human beings.

And biggest reason why its hard to side with the Jews, as proposed, is because not all Jews agree.

And are they still the Chosen people? After God took away the temple and so they have not been able to keep their part of the covenant?

These are some very good questions and I admit that I am not very strong in this area but, we know from the scriptures that most of Israel will not be saved—only a “remnant”. So is Israel still God’s chosen people? I suppose it depends on how you define “Israel” and how you define “chosen people”. Regardless, that doesn’t necessarily exclude Israel from prophecy.

Of course, not all Jews agree, but neither does all of Christianity. That doesn’t nullify the promises of Christ.

The temple is no longer needed due to the atonement of Christ. Of course, one has to put their faith in Christ for that atonement to be experientially effective in one’s [after] life. My understanding is that the remnant will be Jews who see Jesus as their Messiah.

Christ promises do not count for the Jews. For in their eyes, Christ was not the messiah. All of the promises that came with the covenant, such as being the chosen people, also ment that the Jews had to keep their end of the covenant. They haven’t done so since the temple was destroyed.

Also, to support Zionism, is to support the pain of many Christians who lived there before they came. And also hurts the Christians who are oppressed by the Zionist. Ever see the wall?

Code:
The wall they had to build because of the suicide bombers blowing up pizza parlors and Passover Seders?

I support peace and self determination for both the Jews and Palestinians. God bless them both.

I forgot, collective punishment is okay. And resisting being kicked out of your homes, for hotels and synagogues is not okay. As well as the settlers who are endorsed by Netanyahu

I do to. But I am against Zionism. I believe Jews, Christians and Muslims deserve to live in the Holy Land. Zionism is hurtful to Christians and muslims.
