Catholic teaching not found in the Bible

I have not seen one Roman Catholic who can find it in scripture. Usually, they just point to Paul’s account of the Bema Seat in 1 Cor and then, when I show them that that doesn’t refer to Purgatory, they just get mad and start calling me names.
I’m sorry that you were called names. There are many other ways the Sacred texts reveal that the soul enters into a state of purgation. It stands to reason that when Christ decended into Hades that there were souls there that were imperfect because that was their condition when their bodies were seperated from them. Now for them to have joined Christ and rose to heaven their souls must have passed from imperfection to perfection.

Well to start with we have to accept you interpretation of what “Gospel” means.
OK. What’s wrong with my definition?
When one makes up his own defintions its kind of had to have a reasonable discussion.
I didn’t make anything up. It is the commonly held definition in Christianity.
For instance ill bet under your definition Catholics are not Christians. Correct?
Some are, some aren’t.

Someotherguy has been directed more than once to the concise tracts in the CA Library that answer his challenges using citations from Scripture and from the early Church Fathers.

But he is so busy on at least three different threads that even if he were sincere in asking his supposedly unanswerable questions, he would have no time to read them.

Gotta go pray Compline. Night now.
Me too-I bbeleive one of tonights readings is:

“If you are angry let it be without sin;. The sun must not go down on your wrath; do not give the devil a chance to work on you.”

Kind of appropriate, dont you think?

Sounds Gnostic.

You mean like Hebrews 10:14 says all born again believers are made perfect?

.
The commonly held definition is
1 aoften capitalized : the message concerning Christ, the kingdom of God, and salvation bcapitalized : one of the first four New Testament books telling of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ; also : a similar apocryphal book c: an interpretation of the Christian message 2capitalized : a lection from one of the New Testament Gospels

Well, I won’t say what would be said if the situation was reversed. G’nite and nice reading you again Mercygate.

Really? Then what did you mean by this:

*Typically, when a Roman Catholic says “the Gospel”, he actually means the synoptic Gospels.

However, when a **Christian **says “the Gospel”, **we *mean the Bible’s explanation of God’s plan to redeem sinful mankind.

That’s the synoptic Gospels. I’m talking about the Gospel of salvation as described in the Bible.
What:eek: synoptic Gospels refer to Mathew, Mark and Luke. John is not synoptic:nope:

Your statement seems to say that the Gospels are not part of salvation.

They contain elements of the Gospel, but they are not the Gospel, themselves.

I mean that we have different terminology.

No, that has nothing to do with Purgatory.

Read the whole passage. It tells us that we’re perfected by Christ’s atonement, not by suffering in Purgatory.
So, what do you call that state of being imperfect becoming perfect?

According to Islamic texts, Jesus was neither killed nor crucified, but rather He was raised alive up to Heaven. Islamic traditions narrate that He will return to Earth near the Day of Judgement to restore justice and defeat al-Masīḥ ad-Dajjāl (lit. “the false messiah”, also known as the Antichrist).
Hi

The PromisedMessiah 1835-1908 has explained the correct scenario:

The arguments which I am now going to set out, might seem to be useless so far as they are meant for Christians, for these people are not bound by what the Holy Quran or the Hadith say on this question; but I state them because I wish Christians to know of a miracle of our Holy Quran and Holy Prophet; to tell them that the truth which has been discovered after hundreds of years has already been proclaimed by our Holy Prophet and Holy Quran. Accordingly, I set down some of it below.

Almighty God says in the Holy Quran:(4:158) The Jews neither murdered Jesus, not did they kill him on the Cross; no, they only suspected that Jesus had died on the Cross; they did not have proof which could have convinced and satisfied them that Jesus (on whom be peace) had really died on the Cross.

In these verses Almighty God states that although it is true that Jesus was apparently placed on the Cross, and that they were determined to kill him; yet, it is wrong for Jews and Christians to suppose that Jesus did really die on the Cross. No, God created circumstances which saved Jesus from death on the Cross.

Now, if one were just, one must say that what the Holy Quran had said against Jews and Christians turned out ultimately to be true. Investigations of a very high standard to-day have proved that Jesus had really been saved from death on the Cross. A study of the records shows that the Jews have never been able to reply to the question: How was it that Jesus died within two or three hours when his bones were not broken?

This has led the Jews to put in another plea – that they killed Jesus by the sword, whereas the ancient history of the Jews does not show that Jesus was killed by the sword. The majesty and power of the Divine Being made it dark in order that Jesus might be saved. There was an earthquake. Pilate’s wife saw a vision. The Sabbath night was about to fall, when it was improper to let a crucified body remain on the Cross.

The magistrate, because of the terrible dream, became disposed towards the release of Jesus. All this was brought about simultaneously by God to save Jesus. Jesus himself was made to go into a swoon that he might be taken for dead. Through terrible signs like the earthquake, etc. there were produced in the Jews cowardice, and fear, and also fear of heavenly punishment. There was also the fear lest the corpses should remain on their crosses during the Sabbath night. Again, the Jews, seeing Jesus in a swoon, thought that he was dead. It was dark. And there was an earthquake and great excitement. They also became anxious about their homes – how must the children be feeling in that darkness and earthquake? There was also a terror in their hearts that if this man was a liar and a Kafir, as they thought he was, why were mighty signs manifested at the moment of his suffering – signs which had not been manifested before.

They were so upset that they no longer were in a position to satisfy themselves whether Jesus had really died, or what exactly his condition was. What had come about, however, was a Divine Design to save Jesus. This is hinted at in the verse… i.e., the Jews did not kill Jesus – God made them believe that they had killed him. This circumstance encourages the righteous to place great trust in God, that God can save His servants as He pleases.

I think it reasonably explains the incident of Crucifixion; made a mystery by Paul and his associates.

Thanks

Ok. We call being made perfect purgatory. The imperfection is caused by sin. Removing it restores perfection.
So then, Purgatory is not a place one goes after death in order to suffer to cleanse oneself of sin?
