Hi all,

I’m wondering, does the Church have an official position on God judging the nations as happened repeatedly in the Old Testament, i.e. Babylonian, Assyrian conquests of Israel, Jonah warning the city of Nineveh of impending judgement, Sodom and Gomorrah etc…?

Is there any teaching on whether this has happened after the time of Christ up until our own time? I know it was often believed that the Islamic conquests of Christians lands was a punishment for the sins of Christians. Is there an official Church teaching on this?

I’m intending to write an essay on the topic, so any good references would be appreciated.

Thanks!
