I think you would agree though that there is a limit to how many new immigrants America can take in and provide for each year. We are taking in on average a million new immigrants a year, most of which are immigrating because of family ties. We can’t save every Latin and South American by having the immigrate here and at the end of the day a vast majority of these peoples are only going to achieve the American dream if they make it a reality in their own country.
Nate,
I do agree there is a limit to how many new immigrants the usa can take in each year. ‘Providing’ for them is another story alltogether. Be someone born in the usa, be it by usa born parents or otherwise, the usa can only ‘provide’ for so many people, period. And I personally do not give preference to ‘providing’ for someone because of where they happen to have been born.

We ‘provide’ for millions of citizens who can learn to ‘provide’ for themselves. This cost money and is money wasted. Since we are the most in debted country in the world, providing for anyone, regardless of where they were born, is an issue in and of itself IMO.

I am not up on immigration reasons on the large scale. I am of the understanding that people come here to earn a better standard of living. It must be easier if they have family here, but there is a difference between correlation and causation. I am not convinced people come here because as the primary reason they have family here.

So I think the main issue, the issue behind the issue, is how the government addresses people needing, or seemingly needing in some way because at the present time they are not able to provide for themselves. What we do is provide for them rather than help them learn to provide for themselves. Wouldn’t it be better (with limited exceptions) to ‘help’ a person provide for themselves on the condition that they take action steps to be better able to provide for themselves? And also to some degree also provide for someone else/the community at large?

Instead of handouts, a school of life where people, for whatever reason, can’t provide for themselves participate in a ‘learn to provide for yourself’ school while part of that participation requires that they also help the next person in the school learn to provide for themselves.

At the top we have people who give cash they earn providing for themselves to government. Then government puts the people who can’t provide for themselves in a school of 'I can’t provide for myself and never will be expected to so I will do nothing to learn to provide for myself nor will I help anyone else learn to provide for themself/give back in some way to the people doing the providing.

When people are handing out free $100 bills, is it appropriate to get angry at people who show up and collect them? What if the poeple who are handing out the $100 bills stole them from others and claim that by handing out the bills they are doing what is ‘necessary’ and not only that, they need more as not enough is being done?

That sick system leaves millions of low wage jobs open. So it’s not surprising to me that people who in their own countries can’t even get jobs to bring them anywhere close to the standard of living of the people who were born and raised here in the usa but don’t work at all.

The illegal immigration population is diverse. Some deal drugs. Some seek to join the ranks of the us citizens who can’t provide for themselves and are rewarded with cash and a free home, reinforcing the ‘not providing for yourself’ lifestyle. Some come here to work at McDonald’s and are greatful for such a job. How many us citizens are greatful for McDonald’s jobs?
