Dear forum:
What is the consensus of our Theologians on the concept of predestination. Specifically, are we as individuals destined to complete certain things, i.e., see our grandchildren grow up, etc.
Thanks, Beebe

The only thing that matters is Church teaching, which is authoritative. And the Church rejects the Calvinistic doctrine of predestination, which originated during the Reformation.

The church teaches a predestination that does not cancel out human free will and cooperation with grace.

God loves you infinitely, his mercy and forgiveness are infinite. We should ask the Blessed Virgin to obtain for us the grace of final perseverance.🙂

A great book which explains this very well is The Salvation Controversy by James Akin available from Catholic Answers.

The Church teaches that nobody is predestined to go to Hell.

Calvinism is an evil doctrine that distorts scriptures…just wanted to throw that in. 😃
