Should a teen take a job at a store/pharmacy where they may have to sell condoms and the like?

They are not “selling” them if they are ringing up purchases at the register. They aren’t really selling them even if they are required to stock the shelves.

Now, if as part of their job they would have to hand out samples (like at the warehouse stores – “here, try this mini-quiche”) or hawk the wares (“Yessir, step right up and check out the latest products from…”).

Their cooperation is very remote, and not central to their job. Even the store manager in most chain stores doesn’t even have much of a responsibility. That kicks higher up the line.

Now, if they are of a mind to make a point (“Please don’t have me stock those latex products… I find them morally objectionable.”) I suppose that could be meritorious. This is a prudential matter.

Regards,
Joe

Does not a pharmacy or store with a pharmacy also sell birth control pills? More than likely yes.

But as the other poster said…the responsibility regarding the sale of these items is not on the teenager…he or she did not have any say in the decision as to what would appear in the inventory and offered for sale. I doubt seriously that this teenager is going to be trained to use a sales pitch as to which condom is better than the other

To me its a non-issue.

OTH…if you posed the question “Should a teenager work in a store that sells porno”?.. The answer would be quite different.

I think that in just about any job you’re going to come across things that you might find morally wrong. For example, say you work at a video rental place. Well, you might have to rent out some Rated R or even Rated X movies that you would find to be highly offensive. I think it’s hard to avoid morally offensive things in the work place now a days.

Thanks for the answers. Based on the fact that more responsibility falls on the owners of the businesses, they may have additional sin besides selling of immoral products. This is a form of “slavery” whereby the moral are forced to be involved with things they don’t agree with just to have a job.

Thanks for the answers. Based on the fact that more responsibility falls on the owners of the stores, it seems to make it even more sinful from their perspective. This is because it becomes a form of “slavery” whereby the moral are forced to be involved with things they don’t agree with just to have a job.
Foir the large chains i think it is more a matter of being amoral than it s immoral. at any rate I see a big difference between working someplace that sells contraceptives in addition to a large product line as opposed to say working for Planned parenthood or an abortionist.

I’m a teen working at a grocery store…people don’t really buy them as much as they used to. Nowadays, people can order this stuff online and have it mailed to their homes in discreet packaging. Why would they embarrass themselves at the local grocery store where everyone knows them? I have worked at Giant for 2 months now, and I have “sold” 2 boxes of condoms.

I don’t see it as a sin unless I go and promote it.

Why would you want to sell Contraceptives and condoms to people people?

Lust lead most people to Hell, why then embrace it and even help others fall down to Hell?

This will lead you to Hell, if you chose to work with it. Does that rather help people fall down to Hell then save people from Hell, are like Lucifer! This goes for all, for all people, and for all works.

You can read about chastity and why it must be kept to enter Heaven, (its only allowed for procreation, if you want no children, you must live in chastity)

I don’t think it’s about “wanting” to sell these items to people. I am disgusted when I have to. What about other jobs though? Like doctors? What if someone asks to be on birth control? What are you going to do? You cannot ethically refuse it to them unless it is detrimental to their physical health. You have to give it to them, and pray that one day they will see the problem in what they’re doing.

No you must not give any thing to any one that goes against God and lead his precious belowed souls which he redeemed by his blood towards Hell, he hates nothing more than people who murder those whom he so much love.

Birth control, physical health? She should not have sex in the first place, and she should not have sex out of lust as birth control implies, if you want no children then you must live in chastity. Evil birth control was created by the devil so people can live in lust even more. Lust is the sole reason more most people and Christians entering Hell.

If being a doctor means to sin against God, then you cannot be a doctor. No one can fool himself to think, that he is allowed to do sin because of some good deeds he has done, this is foolishness.

Aren’t non-profit groups the ones that hand out condoms?

I think it would be very awkward if I was walking in Costco and saw someone offering condoms for you to try out before you bought them…

Aren’t you the Dutch Reformed Church person who views the writings of St Birgitta equal to Holy Scripture??

Why do you put words in my mouth? Where do you get dutch, and church from?

Its obvious by what spirit you are lead by when you come here out of no where spewing out such nonsence.

You do this because what I teach goes against your will. You know, nothing leads a person so easy down to Hell as one’s own will without a leader.

Eighth Revelation - Book 5
www.saintbirgitta.com

Christ spoke: "That man sang: ‘Deliver me, O Lord, from the unjust man.’ This voice is in my ears like the sound of two stones struck together. Indeed, his heart calls to me as if with three voices. The first says: ‘I want to have my will in my own hands; I want to sleep and to arise and to talk of pleasant things. I shall give nature what it craves. I long for money in my purse and the softness of garments on my back. When I have these and other things, I count them a greater happiness than all of the soul’s other spiritual gifts and virtues.’ His second voice is this: ‘Death is not too hard, and judgment is not as severe as it is written. We are threatened with harsh things as a precaution, but they are mitigated out of mercy. Therefore, if I can have my will in the present, let my soul pass over as best it can in the future.’ The third voice is this: 'God would not have redeemed man if he did not wish to give man heavenly things; nor would he have suffered if he did not wish to lead us back to our Father’s home. Why, indeed, did he suffer? Who ever compelled him to suffer?

Obviously, I have no intelligence of heavenly things except by hearsay; and whether one should trust the Scriptures is something that I do not know. If I could only have my will, I would take it in place of the heavenly kingdom.’ Behold, such is that man’s will. Therefore, in my ears his voice is like the sound of stones. "But, O friend, I answer your first voice: 'Your way does not tend toward heaven, and the passion of my charity is not to your taste.

Therefore hell has opened for you; and because you love things base and earthly, you will therefore go to the regions below.’
To your second voice, I answer: ‘Son, death will be hard for you, judgment unendurable, and flight impossible, unless you amend yourself.’ To your third voice, I say: 'Brother, all my works were done out of charity in order that you might be like me and, though turned away, might come to me again. But now my works are dead in you, my words are burdensome, and my way is neglected. And so what awaits you is punishment and the company of the demons because you turn your back to me, you trample underfoot the signs of my humility, and you give no attention to the state in which I stood before you - and for you - on the cross.

In a threefold state, I stood there for your sake: first, as a man whose eye was penetrated by a knife; second, as a man whose heart was perforated by a sword; third, as a man whose every limb trembled with the pain of pressing tribulation. Indeed, my passion was to me more bitter than a puncture in the eye; yet I suffered it out of charity. My Mother’s sorrow moved my heart more than my own; yet I bore it. For a long time, all my inner and outer parts trembled out of pressing pain and suffering; and yet I did not dismiss it or draw back. Thus I stood fore you, but all this you forget and neglect and despise. Therefore you shall be cast forth as an abortion; and, like the napkin of a menstruous woman, you will be cast out.’

Who are YOU to judge anyone?

You can read about chastity and why it must be kept to enter Heaven, (its only allowed for procreation, if you want no children, you must live in chastity)

People are allowed to have relations even if they do not immediately necessarily want a child. (be open to life, yes, but using methods within NFP to postpone a pregnancy are accepted by the Church). So, NO, you must NOT live in chastity if you are married and not necessarily wanting to be pregnant now.

Why do you reference this saint endlessly, but say nothing about the Bible or catechism references to anything? How about some other references than Birgitta?

It is fine to work in a pharmacy.

The mere fact that you just denied all of what was said, proves what Spirit you are led by.

You do not know God, simple as that. Read the links, and you will understand that aswell. Wake up please, you are walking on a broad way…

Jimmy Akin covered this exact question.

Hope this helps.

Also, technically speaking, things like condoms and birth control could be used for other things. Like birth control may be used for non-contraceptive medical purposes. I suppose a person could use a condom for something other than a form of birth control even if it isn’t likely. So that’s another aspet of not making a judgement on a person’s particular use of an item.

Predikant, that is a blatantly false statement, one that in NO WAY is supported by the Catholic Church. Union is also encouraged for UNITY, not just children. So what you said is FALSE and UNTRUE. A married couple must be OPEN to life, yes, but it is certainly no sin to have relations outside the fertile time (or past menopause or during any other of a number of situations where the couple is not fertile).

Uh, yeah, whatever Predikant. I imagine then that you must lock yourself up in your little abode and never enjoy a beautiful flower, a gorgeous sunset, a wonderful rainbow, a frolicking kitten, the smile of a newborn baby, the snuggle of a puppy, and sticky hug of a toddler, etc., etc., etc., because all these too are “pleasures of the world”.

I have asked you to site a source other than this birgitta, and you apparently have no other source. Birgitta is not God. God is God, and only God is God. So I again ask you, quote from something other than this Birgitta. You are QUICKLY losing credibility, since you only seem familiar with birgitta, and not any other Catholic documents.

PREDIKANT -
This statement is TOTALLY false. TOTALLY against what the Church teaches. The marital act is both unitive AND pro-creative.

To believe otherwise is to be COMPLETELY out of touch with the Catholic Church - which, judging by your other posts on this forum, I believe to be the case.
