Catholic university hosts ‘queer week’ to promote equality of sexual ‘expressions’

Xavier University, a Catholic and Jesuit institution of higher learning located in Cincinatti, Ohio, is scheduled to host what it calls “Queer Week” from March 30 to April 3 of this year, according to the university’s website.

The university says that the purpose of the event is to “embrace and celebrate the use of queer as an inclusive, unifying socio-political term for people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, straight, transsexual, intersexual, gender queer, or anyone else who supports the equality of all identities and expressions.”

Well, what do you expect from Jesuits? Really, now, it seems there’s not one orthodox Jesuit left in the world.

Naturally, we know that any embracing of ‘queer’, ‘gay’, ‘lesbian’, ‘bisexual’, or ‘homosexual’ as a term to describe a human person is disordered. We are children of God, and the poor little ones of the Most High. The Immortal Strength of ages and ages is our father, not the almighty condom!

Is it wrong to embrace how others identify? Aren’t we called to love all including those whose sexual orientation is not heterosexual? I don’t see where this states to embrace the sin of homosexual activity.

There’s a huge leap between loving and accepting another human being, and denying your own principles in order to do so. Yes, people who self-identify as [pick any of the aforementioned adjectives] should be accepted in society, but for a Catholic University to ignore the Church’s teachings and accept it as “normal” is not helpful to anyone. In fact it’s scandalous IMO.

The “same sex hand holding day” definitely gives the idea the university isn’t just tolerating the orientation of the students, rather encouraging the behavior as well.

I agree. It is part of this “normalisation” process that is widespread today.
Same-sex student clubs fail to see the depressing irony in the fact that, while the entire student body is entitled to join any club or society on campus, the same-sex one is the only one that makes sexual orientation a prerequisite. Therefore the oft-quoted comments about students embracing all causes falls flat when one considers this type of absurd behaviour. If all other student clubs are activity-based, what exactly is the thinking behind a same-sex club?
Sadly, as you say, universities are openly encouraging disordered behaviour.
