What is the catholic view on plastic surgery?
I would imagine that it is the same as the view on any other type of surgery, it depends on what its purpose is. Plastic surgery can be very important to a person that has been disfigured by a traffic accident, for instance. Or trauma due to severe burns. Or cancer.

I would think that plastic/reconstructive surgery is very important in those cases and many like it.

And like all good things, they can be abused as well, and create harm.

So, it depends. 🤷

The Church teaches that mutilating the body without a proportionate reason is sinful.

I think it depends on the reason. Are you being vain and getting liposuction to remove a tiny amount of fat from a trim frame or are you have a tummy tuck after losing 130 pounds? I think if you are restoring the body to how it would be in a healthy person with no disfigurement it is fine. If you are having surgery to look perfect hen it is probably wrong. Temperance.
