I’m helping a friend of mine facilitate a short bible study on the book of Esther next week. We’re doing it in two parts with a belated celebration of Purim for the first meeting where we’re reading the story, eating hamantaschen, and doing traditional Purim stuff. We’re calling it “Purim in July”. The next meeting will consist of a group discussion of the Purim story. Our bible study is an ecumenical bible study affiliated with our local Catholic parish and a non-denominational church. Before we start the bible study, I want to know if there are any good articles and other resources that talk about Esther from a Catholic perspective? I’m familiar with the Messianic Jewish perspective and Protestant perspective. Are there any differences in the Catholic bible translation of Esther that I need to be aware of? I live in North America so the Catholics in the group use the New American Bible. I know the prologue/beginning of the book in the New American Bible is very different from the beginning in the NIV translation. We might pick a vision to read at the party but then discuss the different versions at the next meeting.
