Malachi Martin happens to be a discredited “Catholic” as well, who seems to have gone the loony end. I also highly doubt how “Catholic” the others were. Nice try, truthinlove2, but again, no go. Your “Catholic” sources happen to be from disgruntled anti-Catholics, which are biased and twist things to distortion.

My source is a Catholic nun, and her sources are…
  1. Malachi Martin, “The Decline and Fall of the Roman Church” (New York: G.P. Putnam’s Sons, 1981), pages 31-33. A major theme of this book is the radical change which occurred in the Church as a result of Constantine. Malachi Martin recently died. He was a Catholic priest, a theologian, and a Vatican insider. He was the personal confessor of Pope John XXIII.
  2. Paul Johnson, “A History of Christianity” (New York: Touchstone, Simon & Schuster, 1995), pages 67-68. Paul Johnson is a Catholic and a prominent historian.
  3. Malachi Martin, “The Decline and Fall of the Roman Church,” page 33; and Paul Johnson, “A History of Christianity,” page 67. Information about the days of the week being named for pagan gods and goddesses can be found in a good dictionary. Look up each day of the week, and “Saturn”. I used “Webster’s Dictionary,” 1941 edition, which gives the origins of words.
  4. Paul Johnson, “A History of Christianity,” pages 68-69.
  5. Paul Johnson, “A History of Christianity,” page 69.
  6. Malachi Martin, “The Decline and Fall of the Roman Church,” pages 33-34.
  7. Malachi Martin, “The Decline and Fall of the Roman Church,” pages 34-35.
  8. James G. McCarthy, “The Gospel According to Rome” (Eugene, Oregon: Harvest House Publishers, 1995), pages 231-232. James McCarthy is a former Catholic
😃 Now you have sources
Hey TiL,
Now you gotta know that that is a full list of nothing but the worst of the worst of anti-Catholic trash. No wonder you’re all messed up…you read all that garbage? Geez you’d get a better and more accurate view of Catholicism out of the National Inquirer!

Why didn’t you read something that is actually Catholic as opposed to this load of bunk. I’ve read some of this stuff and it’s so full of lies and distortions of the truth that it makes me wanna puke. Seriously…it’s that bad!. Malachi Martin SAID he was all that. Vatican insider my achin’ backside! If he was then I’m Billy Graham…

Who cares where the names of the days come from…geez, in Japan they are named for the different elements earth wind fire water…etc.

Oh one important thing that I’m postive that Martin neglected to tell every body is that since he’s chosen to slant history about Constantine…I wanna know why, if the Church went Pagan at that time, did Emperor Julian the apostate initiate a persecution of the church because it WASN’T pagan. This was only 48 years after Constantine…
I bet Martin left that out…well we can’t tell the unbiased truth…that might cast the Catholic Church in a realistically good light and we all know it’s the whore of babylon and the antichrist and every other pit of hell load of trash they can dump on us.

I bet Paul Johnson is some dissenter that wants us all to be like the prots… Sometimes I think that if they can’t write good fiction some of these folks decide to write about the Catholic Church, cos people will believe any old thing about us… :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Sheesh!

The early Christians were hunted down and killed for their faith, mostly by the Roman empire. That all changed when the Roman emperor “converted” to Christianity after winning a decisive battle. Centuries later Rome emerged as the central point of authority for this Catholic church, and is even disputed today among the eastern churches.

Since I follow Christ and His Word my “church”(meaning called out company) began in around 33AD(give or take a few years due to calendar shifts)…
The Catholic Church was founded by Jesus Christ.
Those christians that were being hunted down and killed were Catholic. Ignatius, born around 50 A.D. who learned at the feet of the Apostle John, was the Catholic Bishop of Antioch and the first to be fed to wild beasts in the Roman Collesium. Polycarp, the Catholic Bishop of Smyrna in Asia Minor, was also transported to Rome. They tried to burn him to death, but the Holy Spirit deflected the flames, so they slew him with the sword. Eusibius, born in 250 A.D., wrote the first History of the Church. There is ample evidence, for anyone openly seeking the truth, of the existance of the Catholic Church from the first Century on. Dispute all you like, it doesn’t change the facts.
I pray that the Holy Spirit remove the scales from your eyes and lead you to the Pillar and Foundation of Truth.

This thread is incredibly crazy. Don’t you all know by now, this is the most controversial topic? I lived a protestant life, converted to Catholism, but through the conversion I remained Christian, yeah, Christian! I see this and wonder what is going on… debating this verse for my Christian religion vs. your verse for your Christian beliefs. Get a clue people - we’re all Christians — Hello!

I can’t believe people go off in the tangents that they do…

kismet,

i understand what you’re saying. the word you’re looking for is ecumanism, and christian unity is something our new pope has already spoken of as a goal of the church. do not, however, confuse ecumanism with universalism. that said, there does exist a certain thing, however, called heresy. it is real, and it is really a sin. to deny truth is to deny Christ, something for which it cannot be stood. it’s not a “my denomination is better than yours” game, but rather a this-is-the-truth-of-Christ labor of love. the catholic church is NOT a denomination, and we don’t play those games here. there are surprisingly few catholics who dialog on this site simply because they enjoy arguing - most do this out of love. love for their brother, and love for God. when you see this, you’ll realize that this is what it means to be catholic (to love God above all things, for His own sake, and to love your neighbor as yourself), and you will also want to leap to the defense of the Body of Christ to which you belong when others try to tell you that “you don’t know nor do you obey Christ”.

i hope this clears some things up for you,
RyanL

There is a lot of hate out there. But, we must remember, “the servant is not greater than the master; if they persecuted Me, they will persecute you also.”

There is a fundamental problem with this thinking. Catholics and non-Catholics believe very differently about salvation, justification, and purification. They are so different as to be mutually exclusive. On one hand, most non-Catholics believe that simple faith in Jesus Christ is the way to salvation(in a nutshell). Catholics on the other hand believe it starts with baptism, continues with eucharist, confession, and ends with the last rites(or whatever it is called now). There is no guarantee of eternal life, it all depends on how you die, in or out of “grace”. Even grace is not the same, to most non-Catholics grace is unmerited favor totally undeserved and not worked for, to Catholics it is something earned by confession, attending mass, doing penance, etc. Paul does not think these kind of differences should be taken lightly. Either Catholics are wrong or not, either non-catholics are wrong or not, but they both are not right and certainly not “of the same fold”. Read for yourself the warning:

Galatians 1
8But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Paul preached a gospel of salvation by grace through faith alone and apart from ourselves or our works. Which of us preaches a false gospel? Which of us will be accursed? I’d make sure I knew I had the right gospel.

Also note up until 50 years ago, anyone not a member of the Catholic church was doomed to hell.

Catholic vs. Protestant John 3:16?

JMJ

**(1 of 5) Catholic vs. Protestant. **

Can the answer be found in John 3:16?

Yes! It can be found in John 3:16, John 3:17 and John 3:18 through John 3:21.

and the answer supports Catholicism.

John 3:16 is the verse that most people associated with non-Catholic Christians, especially “Born Again” Christians. John 3:16 is used by non-Catholic Christians to support their arguments, which differs from Catholicism, that is:
  • Once saved always saved.
  • Saved by grace/faith alone. Not by works.
  • Once you have been save, your name will be forever written in the “Book of Life”.

The word “hope” can be found more than 100 times in the Bible, “guarenteed” is in the Bible two times.

We are confident in the “hope” of our Salvation. However, any mortal sin, not forgiven will cause us to lose Salvation.

Salvation in not Guaranteed, as long as we have free-will. To believe otherwise is to believe in pre-destination or pre-destiny. This belief is anti-Biblical and in error.

Who disagrees with this?

Quote:
John 3:16-21
16
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.
18
Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
19
And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil.
20
For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed.
21
But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.

Lets take a look at John 3:16 – 21.
**Quote:
***John 3:16 ******

******For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. ***

Reading this, does it say that “everyone who believes in him shall not perish”?
No! It says “that everyone who believes in him might not perish”
This is a very important point to answer these two questions:
  1. Is it true that once saved always saved?
  2. Is it true, that you are saved by grace or faith alone and not judge by ***good works? ***
If it’s true that* everyone who believes* isforever* “saved”, wouldn’t the words “shall not’ or “will not” parish, have been used instead of “might not”? *

Might not, means maybe. Might not does not mean that your salvation is guaranteed, just by believing. Might not, means that Jesus suffered and died for us, and our sins so that we *might *be, or could be saved. Jesus died for our sins, He died 2000 years ago. We were all given free will, which means, that after “saying” we believe, after Jesus died for ours sins, that we can still fall into sin and lose our salvation. We, all men, were not saved from the bondage of sin the moment we said “I believe”. This occurred and was completed the moment, 2000 years ago, when Jesus Christ sacrificed himself for us on the cross and died for our sins. Quote:

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. He gave is only son,

Christ crucified, 2000 years ago.

So that we might be saved. All of our sins were nailed to the cross. It was a new beginning. In John 19, verses 28 and 30 it reads *“**everything ***was now finished” and “he said, It is finished."
It was finished, complete, 2000 years ago; we were saved and freed from the bondage of sin.
Quote:

John** Chapter 19

**28 After this, aware that everything was now finished, in order that the scripture might be fulfilled Jesus said, “I thirst.” **

30 When Jesus had taken the wine, he said, "It is finished." And bowing his head,* he handed over the spirit. ***

**

John 3:19-21

*****19 And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil. *****

20 *****For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. *****
*****21 *****
*****But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God. ***

Quote:
And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil. But
whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God. And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil”.

**
During the time of Jesus, there were people who said that they believed. If they said that they believe, then they are forever saved**, right? Wrong! Because, they didn’t live the truth, good works, obeying Gods laws, avoiding sin and doing good works, things pleasing to God. They preferred the darkness (sin).
Quote:

“And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil”

The verdict or conclusion was that even though the light (Jesus) came into the world, people still preferred darkness, they still sinned. We all sin, and will continue to sin, All of us! And when we do sin, we go away from the light (Jesus) and into the darkness (sin). It’s a constant battle, our entire life. When we do sin, after we accept Jesus Christ, it is necessary to asked for forgiveness, leave the darkness (sin) and return to the light (Jesus).

Hello Kismet_NM,

You might be right, maybe this thread does sound a little crazy, but even though we all call ourselves “Christians”, we don’t all believe in the same things…There are a lot of crazy beliefs out there that some, do not think are very “Christian”… if you know what I mean?

Dear Readers of the Forum:

I came and found this thread while searching JOHN 3.16 catholic version. I am currently preparing to write an email to Mr. Michael H Brown, a well renown author and known in the marian community. The answer to JOHN 3.16 " Catholic vs. Protestant" maybe so simple to explain in few words, but may be diificult to understand at first 🙂

Before John 3.16 (The New Testament), we must go back to the The Old Testament, more specifically, the time of the Ark of The Covenant. According to The Faith and The Love of God’s Peoples of ISrael, The Ark is The True Presence of The God of Israel (God The Almighty Father) amongst them. It is the same to that of The Holy Roman Catholic Faith, The Holy Eucharist is The True Presence of The Lord and Savior of the World Jesus Christ Amen!

The Ark (The Old Testament) and The Holy Eucharist (The New Testament) are based on Faith and The Love of God within the heart, mind and soul Amen!

****John 3:16 “God so loved the world that he sent his only son (Presence in The Holy Eucharistic), that whoever believes in Him may have eternal life.” ***

Peace…

The Abomination of Desolation

Shalom~Peace

Dear Raders of The Forum

As conveyed to the US Cardinals and Bishops

The Fourth Sign ~ The Three Hours of Darkness
The rise of the Anti-Christ who will commit the Abomination of Desolation before The Ark of The Covenant Amen!

The phrase Abomination of Desolation refers to Matthew 24:15: So when you see standing in the holy place the abomination that causes desolation spoken of through the prophet Daniel - let the reader understand. This Scripture is referring to Daniel 9:27, He will confirm a covenant with many for one seven. In 167 B.C. a Greek ruler by the name of Antiochus Epiphanies set up an altar to Zeus over the altar of burnt offerings in the Jewish temple in Jerusalem. He also sacrificed a pig on the altar in the Temple in Jerusalem. This event is known as the abomination of desolation.

**The Holy Eucharist is the True Presence of The Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The Holy and Eucharistic Sacrifice is the Sacrifice to be. All other sacrifices not of The Holy Roman Catholic Faith is The Act of The Abomination of Desolation before God The Almighty Father in Heaven on Earth Amen! **

In The OT, The Peoples of Israel offered animal sacrifice before The Ark of The Coveannt. In The NT, The Holy Eucharist is The True Presence of The Lord and Savior of The World Jesus Christ Amen!

JOHN 3.16 GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON AS THE SACRIFICE AMEN!

There is only One True Church and One True Faith and The Love of God within the heart, mind and soul, THE HOLY ROMAN CATHOLIC FAITH AMEN!
