There are Protestants for whom this is the meaning.

This is not the meaning for Hodos.

Let Hodos, a Lutheran, tell you what it means to Lutherans.
 
I love the Stations of the Cross. I prayed them one night in Adoration at like 2 am and it was a beautiful experience. Love it and I’d like to do it again.

Not trying to change your mind on it…

But for the benefit of the reader, just want to add that our beautiful paintings, windows/statues are usually the work of devoted Catholic hands. Prayer and fasting are involved – even Holy Water is mixed in the paint itself. It’s not a secular sideshow or something but very much the work of dedicated Christians. And that reason alone grants appreciation from me.
 
The way I understand it, Lenten is that crafting such things is an act of devotion itself. When you look at the Ignatian principle that any work, done with the greater glory of God in mind; is a good work that pleases God.

If it makes you feel better, a large number of posts from Catholics on this forum make me pray for patience daily, wonder how Jesus puts up with us, and think that if people rather than Jesus were why I chose a church, I would have ditched Catholicism long ago and probably be worshipping in the woods under a tree somewhere.

I then remind myself that I can be just as annoying in my own way and that having a person annoy you is an opportunity to offer up to God, gain grace, help poor souls etc. Of course that leads to me asking Jesus if he really must give me so many opportunities in one day…

Yeah, I do too sometimes. These things are obviously passionate subjects to us, so when we feel that someone is being intentionally disrespectful it can be difficult to maintain one’s bearings. I appreciate that you are trying to facilitate a civil conversation even though we may have differences. I am here because I like to articulate my beliefs for clarification where we disagree, but also to find those common ground things that should unite us in our faith. Ultimately, we all want one thing, the Body of Christ united in doctrine and love for each other.
 
Yeah, I get you. Something I’ve learned is that it’s better to share than to lecture the other guy on how he’s wrong. Really off putting, only puts people on the defensive and not to mention; downright unChristian.
 
So, thank you for being charitable to me in response. I’m really enjoying talking to you; now that I don’t get the feeling we’re trying to constantly disprove each other as the basis of our talks. Lol

I totally get you there.

My kids love me despite my faults, Thank God for that; and my fiancé loves me deeply and thinks the world of me. Even though I’ve really tested her patience and understanding at times over the years. She even thinks I’m wiser than her.

I don’t know about that. I’ll just take her word for it. All I know is: Other than my kids, and God loving and trying to save a sinner like me; she’s the best thing that ever happened to me.
 
I just thought of something, Hodos and I hope you can clarify for me.

I was going over your expounding of Sola Scriptura and this popped into my mind:

I see in my niece’s ELCA community that there’s folks saying stuff like: “ Well, I think this is what Jesus really meant… “ which really amounts to them using Scripture to justify what they want to do anyway, and I’m thinking of the “ justification “ for women clergy, gay ministers, gay “ marriages “ and abortions when I say this; does that anger you guys who seriously take what Our Lord taught?

Especially in light of that they don’t reference the ECFs and your community’s consensus?

Because I hear our priests say a lot of your folks who’re serious about what Scripture says leave their communities and come to us in response to the liberalization of mainline Protestantism.

That what it basically amounts to is that your conservative members leave when their denoms don’t take a strong moral stance on many of these issues.

I realize you can probably only speak for Lutherans in this regard. Which reminds me: Which Lutheran community are you?

Which I can totally understand. I’d get mad and want to leave too.

That’s one of the many reasons why I’m Catholic. The Church has always been firm on these issues.
