Catholic Wedding Invitation Mistake

Quick question for everybody… I just ordered my wedding invitations and FOR SOME REASON I completely forgot to add the word “Catholic” after the name of the Church, so it looks like this:

“Saint John Vianney Church”

instead of

“Saint John Vianney Catholic Church”

The invitation does mention that the wedding will be a “Nuptial Mass”… do you think my mistake is bad enough that I should re-order them and spend an extra $150?

IMHO, No.
Most people that see the name of the church will assume it is Catholic. Any people that are concerned about whether the wedding will include a Mass or not will call and ask.

Of course this is assuming there isn’t a non-Catholic church by the same name in the same area.
 
I, personally, think your invitations are fine as is. I’m not sure I would even call it a mistake. Certainly, for clarity sake the word “Catholic” can be added, but I don’t believe it is necessary.

Won’t most of your friends/family know you are Catholic and therefore getting married in a Catholic church?
 
I would not worry about it unless there happens to be some non-Catholic church by that same name in your town.
 
Yes, everybody knows we’re Catholic… I just feel terrible right now that I missed that…

No, there is no church of another denomination with that same name

Don’t worry, there are many more important things to worry about for your wedding. Don’t sweat the small stuff.
 
I don’t recall ever seeing an invitation that specified ‘Catholic’. I think most people will take it for granted that it’s Catholic, especially since you included ‘nuptial Mass’.
 
Very insignificant omission. Do not even think twice about it.

First of all, what other denomination is going to name a church, St John Vianney? And your friends and family already know you are Catholic - why the stress?
 
I think you are OK. It’s not as if they spelled Vianney wrong.
 
I think you’re right…I’m stressing over nothing… my old parish was always called “Immaculate Conception Church”… who would else call it “Immaculate conception”? :o thanks everybody for the quick help 🙂

Reminded me of a sign on the side of a church I used to drive by:

“Parking for Immaculate Conception only”

Spot was always empty.😃

You’re fine…don’t worry. You’ve mentioned the Nuptial Mass, there is no other St. John Vianney… not a big deal, even if you would have preferred to include it.
 
Don’t worry about it. Maybe it’s a local thing, but none of the four churches where I have been a parishioner have said “Catholic” even on their own signs, bulletins, etc. It’s just “St. So-and-so Church” or “St. So-and-so Parish.” I certainly wouldn’t waste that money. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! 🙂

I agree with the majority of the other posters OP, I really don’t know any non-Catholic church that would even name itself after a good, holy Priest who has been Canonized :D.

You know that St. John Vianney is the Patron of Priests right? It kind of makes me smile to even think of a Lutheran or even Anglican church naming itself after a Catholic Priest who was born well after the “Reformation”.

Okay, I’ll be the only one who agrees with you, BamaRider. But I’m a known fanatic about wedding invitations. So, when you make your decision, dear bride, know that at least a few of the recipients will notice.

And then make your decision, whatever it is, and forget about it.
 
Just out of curiosity… what does the sign out in front of the church say? Does it actually use the word “Catholic”?
 
If the Crucifix and the Tabernacle don’t clue them in, they need way more catechesis then a wedding invitation can provide…

In short, no:)

Just out of curiosity…I went to catholicweb.com and did a search for all the churches in our diocese. Out of almost 50 churches, only THREE had the word “Catholic” in their official names. If someone is going to pitch a fit over this, let THEM pay for the reprint of the invitations! 🙂
