Can’t understand why this is such a big issue to the wedded couple.
Well A) They aren’t wedded yet…they’re talking about their wedding and B) The bride doesn’t want a part of her wedding where her family is left on the sideline as mere observers while she participates in it with his family…basically driving a stake down the middle of the church I also/can’t understand how people don’t get this. This was the reason that my wife and I didn’t have communion at our wedding.
This seems like way too much drama.
Agreed, the OP didn’t want a full mass wedding where her fiance did…she brought a perfectly fine compromise to the table and he refuses to budge (when he agreed to it a few months ago.)

Problem is, that compromise is not permitted by the Church (at least in the USA).

That link I’ve posted a few time gives the options for Catholic marriage in 'Murica.

And her priest said that he’s good with the compromise (sounds like it might even of been his idea) and this isn’t the first time I’ve heard of this compromise being done in 'murica.

You’ve spent enough time here to know that some priests do things contrary to the way they are supposed to be done. (Sadly, you know this first hand).
