In response to the OP’s question:

Jesus in the Eucharist.
'Nuff said.

i was born catholic, and like so many others took my faith for granted. About 10 years ago, my faith was rekindled and now i am catholic because i firmly believe that the cc was founded by christ, it is his kingdom here on earth, it has been around for over 2000 years, it is his store house of grace, it guards against error…wow…and that ain’t even the half of it!!!
ditto!!!

While I was born, raised, and confirmed Catholic. I started having doubts and started to think of myself as being more of a “Catholic Deist” (because I started to accept Deistic thoughts like Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin) I still went to Mass, but my reasons for going were more like. (To simply recognize that God is their). However one day my parish started presenting Fr Barron’s Catholicism series and I started to have second thoughts. Then when Pope Francis got elected I began to end my Deistic thinking. After reading books by GK Chesterton and watching EWTN live with Fr Mitch Pacwa ,SJ I started becoming a more faithful Catholic. Then I discovered CAF and began to learn more and more about my faith than I ever did before.

Currently I’m in discernment to one day become a priest in the religious life (God willing Society of Jesus)

Congratulations and best wishes!

Cradle Catholic or (even less more like dormant!) from childhood till age 40. Then met a Muslim who tried to tell me how Christianity had been corrupted. After researching this myth, realized that the Catholic Church has the Fullness of Truth.

If there were any mistakes by the Church that would be my issue because Im probably wrong to doubt the Church honesty in admitting its mistakes. Because Im a SINNER through my own fault and I NEVER question the CHURCH.

The Church is my home and my refuge. I KNOW Christ lives in His Church and protects it despite the weaknesses of its members.

I was born and raised in the Catholic faith but I lost interest in middle/high school. In college I had an epiphany and returned to Mass out of the blue, even though I didn’t understand much Catholic doctrine or dogmas. Before my “reconversion,” I considered myself a non-practicing neo-pagan but then turned agnostic.

Here are some reasons why I am (and stay) Catholic:
  1. Jesus’ true presence in the Eucharist, as well as the long history of documented Eucharistic miracles.
  2. Long history of religious art, whether they are icons, statues, architecture, stained glass windows, or paintings (I love Catholic art), which are important in the history of Catholic worship. When I step into my church I am amazed with the fact that all my senses (sight, smell, hearing, etc.) are being engaged, especially sight. It makes stepping into a Catholic church-whether eastern or western-a glorious thing.
  3. Communion of Saints: long history of Catholic Saints who were passionate about Christ and who even gave their lives for their faith.
  4. Long history of Catholic theologians and scientists. It is amazing how much Catholics have contributed to the sciences and the arts.
  5. The fact that this is the original church that Jesus founded, as well as true apostolic succession.
  6. Lots of Catholic literature, so much so that I’ll never be able to read them all (where do I start? Anselm of Canterbury? Thomas Kempis? Peter Kreeft? Hildegard of Bingen?).
  7. The long history of Catholic chant, whether it be Gregorian/Sarum/Old Roman/Ambrosian/Byzantine Chant. Plus, Palestrina and his renaissance polyphony which is truly music from heaven.
  8. I like the use of Latin in the Roman Rite. Latin is one of my favorite languages and I hope to learn it one day.

If you look at the Apostles it’s really hard to deny that something changed them. First, they claimed that women discovered the empty tomb. Not a great way to start off your story about your God’s power in the ancient world, showing the historicity behind the empty tomb. Then, the disciples went throughout the Roman world and beyond proclaiming the Good News. Who would do that for a lie, and then die for it as well? Furthermore, considering the trauma that had to have come from seeing their leader betrayed and crucified, it’s impossible for them to have conspired and come up with a lie about Jesus.

The only explanation I can come up with is that Jesus rose from the dead. 👍
Yes, there’s a good starting point for faith in Christ. And the 1st-generation Christians would not have done so much for a lie.

A Protestant could be proud of your answer. It puts Christ at the center of your faith. I am a Christian for those reasons you gave. I can can find a rational starting point for believing in Christ, but that’s not the question. Answering why one believes in Christ is not the same thing as answering why one believes in the papacy. That requires proving that the apostolic prerogative to teach and rule could be handed down.

I was born and raise Catholic. Though I have considered converting to different religions I haven’t because I have only found truth in Christianity. Being Catholic is the only thing that make sense to me. However if the Church did somehow error I would have not problem becoming Orthodx because I like what they have and they do have the Truth

  1. It’s the truth, the whole Truth, and nothing but the Truth. Not bits and pieces.
  2. There’s something about Mary and the Saints. Tradition isn’t a bad thing.
  3. It’s the original church.
  4. Family. I married a Catholic man. Also, I can’t imagine raising my child to be Catholic and not sharing in the Holy Eucharist with him/them.
  5. Values. I know what the Church stands for and it doesn’t back down just because it’s not popular to be against gay marriage/premarital sex/contraception. It’s real and authentic. Not flashy and trying to sell me books/cd’s every week.

I do not know if I agree. If I believe in Christ, I am compelled to believe all He taught. Can you believe in Christ without believing everything He taught?

What Rome teaches cannot be equated with what Christ teaches. The thing to be proved is taken for granted.

What Rome teaches cannot be equated with what Christ teaches.
But it can. 🙂 Christ founded the Church and commissioned the Apostles to speak in his name and to administer the sacraments he established. When did that change? Never. Did the Apostles lay hands on others to carry on their work? Absolutely. It’s right there in the NT.
The thing to be proved is taken for granted.
No, it’s merely an historical reality.

Then if what you are saying is true, then how can Christ be one with the RCC? He said that he is united to the RCC as the bride to the bridegroom.

So how Christ and the RCC be one and disagee on teachings?

it is the church that Jesus started. Who am I to second-guess Jesus?

although I am converting, I’m willing to play a bit of Devil’s advocate. The entire bible is littered with people chosen by God and Jesus that absolutely failed.

I am Catholic because I perceive Catholicism to have the fullness of truth, in theology and doctrine. Catholicism’s truth has been demonstrated to me through history, nature, reality, reason, and faith, and all I have ever learned or discovered in my lifetime has pointed to the Church.

I believe it is one, holy, universal, and apostolic, and contains in its teaching all that a human need know to attain the greatest natural, moral, and spiritual happiness, both in this life and the next.

Why are you Catholic?
There’s only one reason.
  • The Catholic Church is the Church Jesus started, promised to build, and gave all His promises to. Therefore, we are obliged, to be in His Church AND remain in His Church [John 17:20-23 (Douay-Rheims Bible, John Chapter 17) if we want to participate in all those promises we see in the NT, which the Catholic Church wrote, collected, & canonized. And that obedience to what He wants is how we demonstrate we love Him [John 14:23-24 (Douay-Rheims Bible, John Chapter 14) . A said love is not love, any more than a said faith is faith. Without action both are dead.
