Thank you Frank. 🙂 At least your post, compared to 1ke’s, was polite, civil, and respectful. I read your whole post and did not once feel defensive to offended.

God bless,
Heather
married blissfully to a non-Catholic

Sadly, in real life, I have never met even one eligible single woman who I know to be a devout Catholic.
Either this is an exaggeration, you live in some far-off remote corner of the world, or you must not get out of the house much. I’ve probably met over 100 eligible, single devout Catholic women in the past few years, without really even trying.

Your comment makes it seem like you started this thread because you’re angry at the fact that so many Catholic women have removed themselves from the dating pool.

Well, it’s a bit hard to find Catholic men or Catholic women in Japan. There are about 800,000-900,000 Catholics in Japan, half of which are Japanese and the rest mainly from Brazil, the Philippines, Peru and Korea (the population of Japan is around 130,000,000).
Most of the marriages in my parish are between Catholics and non-Catholics (usually Buddhists). There is 1 unmarried Japanese man between the ages of 25 and 40, 2 Spanish and 2 Italian (missionary Neocat community families). There are about 5 Philippino men in this age group. I don’t think people here don’t care about their Catholic religion. It’s just extremely hard to find Catholic men and women.

I’m in India, and there aren’t a lot of young guys out here who know their faith at all, or are even interested… but I’m not worrying coz…

For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:10-12

In the meanwhile I’m gonna do the best I can to help our youth come to know Jesus… not only helping to save their souls… but also making them eligible spouses for other girls and guys 😉

This thread seems to be more about the importance of finding a well catechised spouse than existing marriages. In the spirit of JPII, I challenge everyone to take a good look at the young generation in church (those in their early 20) see how many are there and then think of ways to bring the ones that are not there back. In my parish I see more girls than boys. Maybe they are all away at college. Maybe we need more catholic groups on campus. This should be another thread.

I’ve actually met a few devout Catholic guys on campus, as well as some devout Christian non-Catholics. You have no idea how surprised and happy I was to find them. Back home (in my 80% Catholic town), only two of my guy friends were serious about their faith. In my university (which is more diverse religiously than my hometown and really not known for its religious affiliation), I’ve met quite a few guys who are devout in their faith. One of them hi-fived me when he found out I was Catholic because he is too:)

Well, yes, if you live in a non-Christian country, then it will be quite a bit harder for you to find someone. 🙂 One of my Catholic friends is from India and he is having a lot of trouble finding an Indian Catholic woman (he lives in the US now.)

But I suspect that the original poster is not living in Japan or India, so I’m eager to hear about his situation, and why he’s never met a single Catholic woman.
