Perfect answer…I’m not sure why anyone else bothered after this answer…but I have snacks ready to wade through them, just about guessing what direction they are headed.

If God doesnt make mistakes, couldn’t one say His making a gay gene, (which the article is my OP, sounds like is possible,) is a mistake?
Guess one could…except…God DOE NOT make mistakes.

There’s not a gay gene.

There’s no “born this way”

It’s corrupted sexual desire. Nurture, not nature, is responsible for the disordered desire.
Really? The correct answer might be there has been no Gay Gene discovered. And, “There is no born this way?”…but SSA is developed through nurturing?..Are there gay recruiters? Do they give away free calendars or toasters for signing up?

The homosexual is not disordered. The homosexual act is.

The Catholic Church doesn’t take a dogmatic/doctrinal position on whether or not there is a “gay gene.” Gay gene or not, the Church considers taking part in homosexual relations to be gravely disordered acts.

It should be taken into account that Your desire to have sex with your wife(if your married), is a different desire than a homosexual man’s desire to have sex with a man. One’s appropriate, and ones a grave sin. While I struggle with homosexual attractions sometimes, I also find the end goal, a sexual scenario, extremely usatisfying. It can get to be kind of an addiction, but in reality it’s more of a misguided desire for same sex affirmation, approval and affection, but a bad solution, a way to escape. as a result of emotional pain from the past, having to do with the same sex, which can get recalled when I have new distressing situations.
Overcoming the addictive aspect is one thing, but once I do, I have, but I’ve relapsed some recently, Not acting on ssa’s(Sexual ones) is one of the most joyful things ever.
and assuming I’m able to handle greif, loneliness, pain, distress ect. appropriately, it doesn’t flare up. The problem right now is I don’t have any close friends I can trust to share stuff, and so the loneliness and secrecy destroys me.

I’m saying having same sex attraction, and wanting to have sex with your wife, are not really comparable.

It’s more comparable to a drug problem. It’s a misguided solution.

If there was a gay gene then identical twin studies would show gay trait inheritance but they don’t…not even close.

Even if there was a gene that had some adnormality that lead homosexuality…I would be the first to jump up and say yay…why? Because that means that scientist can come up with a medicine to treat homosexuality. However, sadly the identical two studies indicate that homosexuality is environmental. Identical twins would expect statistically 100% correlation of homosexuality to be considered purely a genetic cause. 70% and up would indicate genetic with a strong roll in the environment. Less that 70% or rate of .7 would indicate little genetic change moment and primarily encvironmental. Itidentical twin studies separated at birth having 0 to .2 correllation indicates absolutely no genetic factor, the trait is completely related to environment.

And it should be remembered that genes are not the be all end all. There may be genes that have a higher likelihood of giving same-sex attraction, but the nature aspect of it would also be dependent on how the body develops from those genes, hormone exposure, epigenetics, etc… not just the genes themselves.

Same sex attraction is more likely to occur in males that come from broken homes and with absent fathers. Whilst not all SSA can be explained by it, there is a correlation.

Folks, Hope struggles mightily with OCD. Throwing a lot of extra comment that don’t specifically pertain to the OP is not really helpful for her, and is likely the reason why she keeps asking over and over.
I know she won’t mind me saying this, as she has been very open, and indeed, longtime posters are friends with her and pray for her and her struggles. She’s a very sweet person and a practicing Catholic.
Might I suggest that some of these off topic things be discussed in other threads?
God bless everyone here. I know people are just trying to be helpful. When one can’t really help the doubting, it’s even more difficult.
Peace.

I would say its extremely common. There are other factors as well, such as connecting with same sex peers in childhood. The father role can be a base problem that leads into peer problems, but no case is exactly the same. It often goes way back to about 3 years old.

It isn’t always obvious though. It’s not like my father was absent, or bad, or anything, but I was basically raised by my mother, and my dad seems very uncomfortable with affection for some reason. He wasn’t a very strong father figure figure, even though he was there and he was my father. I was too emotionally entangled with my mother as well.
