Thanks again for sharing. This is such a neat story.My parents never made a big deal about it. The only reason I know how many they sponsored comes from a visit with my mother. There was a televangelist on TV who asked the question, “How many people have you brought to Christ?” My mother said, “At least six.” Then she told me it was because they saw our “loving family.”
Yes, they did take pictures. It is only from reading this thread that it dawned on me that it was always couples. The family is very important in Japanese culture.
Every year, the chaplaincy in Yokohama sponsored an “adopt an orphan for a day.” There would be a picnic at this competitive swim place with pools of different sizes and depths. We always “adopted” at least two or three boys, partly because our family was already large. The idea was for the orphans to experience family life, if only for a day.
My parents also played Santa and Mrs. Claus every Christmas at an orphanage.
