Did you know that the Gregorian calender that you follow along with us Anglicans was altered in the Catholic church away from its original form? What you call ordinary time was originally not that at all. We still follow the calender in its true tradition by counting the Sundays after the saesons of Epiphany and Pentecost instead of merely referring to it as ordinary time. Who changed and who remained true to original tradition?

AND… The Catholic church as presented today is really not the original Christ church as it was meant to be preserved.

The Anglican Church is not the original Christian Church.

Gee, I like playing this “my facts are better than your facts” game! 😃

Can you explain all of this further and provide some links? I’m new to all this Apostolic succession/tradition keeping stuff.

this is just a small example of many distortions that needed to be refocused during the Reformation. Thank God for Thomas Cranmer, Martin Luther, King Henry 8 and many others. God bless the Church of England for the preservation of Christ’s traditional church.

It’s really simple when you boil it down. You can’t change what you want and do what you want (contrary to scripture) and say that you are ordained by the Holy Spirit to do so. Just non-sensical.

Maybe I’m wrong (I’m not much of a historian), but didn’t the original church have a Pope as it’s head? Beginning with Peter? Does the Anglican Church recognize the Pope as the head of its Church, as did the original church?

It’s called “Ordinary Time” because it is counted with ordinal numbers. They probably changed it to “the season of Ordinary Time” from “the season after Epiphany” and “the season after Pentecost” in order to emphasize that the readings of Ordinary Time are part of a season of their own, of equal importance to the Advent, Christmas, Lenten, and Easter seasons.

This is part of the evolution of how the Church understands itself. I am of the opinion that, since the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary treat the same subjects that we deal with during Ordinary Time that, some day, we will refer to this season as “Luminous Time,” and we will talk about that kid that spilled his sippy cup in pew seven on “the second Sunday of Lumen,” etc.

By then, the Protestants will have finally caught up to the idea of Ordinary Time, and you guys will be counting Ordinary Sundays, while we are counting Luminious Sundays. 😛

But isn’t this what the Protestants did? Change what they wanted? Threw out books from the bible?

Ah, it is only the Roman church who refers to Peter as the first pope but history doesn’t support that at all. The supremacy of Rome (or the illusion thereof) was always in constant question. Peter was a poor fisherman who wasn’t charasmatic at all and much of the time wasn’t even bright. The popes are carried into the mass surrounded by mounds of gold and jewels. Peter was poor. There isn’t even the remotest of comparisons here. Catholic teaching does not correspond with teachings of the early church. Check your history regarding the immaculate conception and the assumption. Nowhere to be found in scripture or the early church. Completely fabricated by the Roman Catholic Church.

Ok. Thank you for setting us all straight here. I’m sure we’ll all be running to the nearest Episcopal Church and signing up tomorrow.

The point is, ordinary time is a changing from the original Gregorian calender. Protestants are always being accused of changing everything by Catholics but the opposite is quite often true. Catholics just believe that they are the only ones ordained to do so.

You mean the Episcopal Church which allows divorce (not in the Bible or in Christian teachings for the first 1500 years or so), contraception and abortion (since the Lambeth conference in 1930), and both female ‘priests’ (1980s) and openly practicing homosexual bishops (Gene Robinson, USA), none of which is Scriptural or practiced in Christianity until the last generation or so?

The Episcopal Church has its fair share of problems today like possibly being split from the rest of the Anglican Communion. I myself am staying true to Anglican tradition.

The Catholic Church was founded by Our Lord Jesus Christ for the salvation of souls and to bring His teachings to the world.

The Anglican Church was founded by Henry VIII, King of England, so he could divorce his first wife and exercise control over Church affairs in his country.

Now which Church is the original?

If you knew scripture like you seem to think you do, divorce is mentioned in the Bible and there are proper grounds expressed by Paul for it. It is your church who took it upon itself to supercede scripture and then say they were ordained to do so.

How is changing somethings name the same as changing tradition if its still acknowledged?

I’d say completely throwing out 7 books of the Bible is much worse than that.

Plus, I don’t get how it proves anything. Maybe I just don’t know enough about this kind of thing.

You say Catholics always change things and merely think they are ordained to do so…yet in making this thread and stating the Anglican Church is Christs Church, isn’t that exactly what you’re saying? Hmm;) Thats one nice thing about Christians, we’re not all that different!

Please quote the scriptures properly instead of making allusions to passages.

The Catholic church was formed by an emperor at which time it immediately began distorting sacred tradition. The Reformation took place to try and right the wrongs of the Catholic church and Henry’s divorce only facilitated the process. Catholics can blame themselves for what happened. The politics and lies.

And this of course, ReformationPlus, is based upon your assertions of a calendar and the counting of Sundays.

Hhhmmmm:whacky:

I thought WE were the “original Christ church” because of the original Christ message we preserved since Pentacost in 33 AD (or thereabouts, to second guess you from correcting THAT date).
