I have been going through the Catholicism series put out by Fr. Robert Barron and Word on Fire.

I am finding it incredibly fascinating and a wonderful overview of the basics (history, dogma, doctrine and some common practices) of our faith. While I know and understand that it is not a very deep, penetrating view of any particular spirituality within our Church, I feel that it is an excellent introductory overview for those who are inquiring about what our faith is about, and what it may mean to a great number of the faithful really beginning to understand and dig into our faith.

Your opinions and comments on the series?

I think it is excellent! I bought myself the series for Christmas and showed it to the Friday morning group that meets after Mass. There are ten one-hour segments on five DVDs. They all loved it! In fact two of the members decided to go ahead and buy a set for themselves as they want to show it to their husbands and other family members.

It was so well received that I have been inviting close friends to my home to see the series. It is a wonderful B12 shot in the arm for the Church! Father Robert Barron is a gifted teacher, and together with the art, architecture, and beautiful scenery from countries all over the world it is superb.
 
Excellent! I also bought it for Christmas and am sharing it with our priest and friends.

I have been showing it twice a week (the same episode each week) to our parishioners and have also been showing it in my home for some friends. Last week I started showing it to our 8th graders at the parish school. I find it exceptional. I even showed some episodes to our RCIA candidates.
 
It’s excellent. I regularly watch Fr. Barron’s videos on Youtube and I have the book version of Catholicism on kindle. I hope to get my hands on the DVD collection this summer.

Fr. Barron sort of reminds me of two cool English professors I had as an underclassman in college. He’s articulate, intelligent, down-to-earth and he makes things relevant and interesting.
 
The Cathlocism series is 100% Evangelization. As it may delightfully surprise you evangelization is not about conversion, convincing, or “proclaiming” the Gospel. (Please note proclaim is in quotes). It is about introducing you to a person. As in “hello this is my N. How do you do?”

Doesn’t exactly remind me of any professors I had, but the ones I wish I had. I love his YouTube videos and have heard numerous good things about this series…maybe I can be convinced to buy it.
 
I too have been watching many of his YouTube videos and find him to be a very intelligent and authentic priest. He helps bring the very best of the Catholic church to us in an easily accessible manner. In fact, he’s like a role model to me right now as I continue to learn how to view life through the lens of God and discern vocations to the priesthood or religious life while I try to finish up college 🙂

I had seen several of Fr. Barron’s talks about "Catholicism’ on EWTN – then was totally amazed a couple of weeks ago when I noticed his program was going to be on a PBS station – in fact, his program is going to be on the same PBS station tonight at10:00 PM – hope I can stay awake late enough to watch it.
 
I really like the series, and have learned a few things from it. I am waiting for the price to go down to purchase the dvd series. I think it would be beneficial for churches to use it for adult faith formation classes in my opinion.

Some churches in my area are already using the Catholicism series in their faith formation classes.

Check out Amazon.com their prices seem to change every so often. I got a Catholicism series for a gift a couple of months ago for about $87.00
 
I am currently facilitating this at my Parish. So far we have been really excited. We are using the study books with it too. I did buy my own copy of the DVD’s from Amazon but got a used set because it was much less money and well worth it so those looking for the set should consider getting a used copy.
 
I agree it’s fantastic. Now, if we could just get Fr. Barron to go a little bit Traddy…
 
I love this series! I hope to buy it sometime, to keep on hand to watch and to loan out to others. Count me among the many who watch Fr. Barron’s YouTube videos and enjoy each one immensely. He’s a truly gifted educator and priest.

I’ve never seen a video in which he failed to come across as knowledgeable or kind-hearted. Lovely person and great series! I highly recommend it. 👍
 
You guys are a riot.

I happen to think all priests should be open to the traditional Latin Mass. I’m a big fan of Fr. Barron, I like his books, too…but he’s not currently into traditional liturgy and that’s too bad.

Not sure why THAT would be controversial in a “Traditionl Catholicism” forum, but this is the internet where nothing makes sense, ever.

Absolutely awesome. I’m gonna get the DVD set, that’s for sure. 👍
