Catholicism verses Church Of Christ

Thank You so very much. I have decided that I am going to St Peter the Fisherman in Mountain Home. My heart is and always will be Catholic.

I wonder though, if it would be a sin to still go with my husband to the Church of Christ for fellowship purposes and go to St Peter’s on saturdays. They have a Saturday Mass at 4:PM…

Thanks again

Much love in Christ
Lura
As I have stressed, as long as you and your spouse are in agreement; that is very important. Always remember to put Christ above all things, great or small.

God bless!

=scooter469;4883240]It is not United Church of Christ. It is Church of Christ, Independently run by elders.
so, I am trying to find out if any one of you all would be able to shed some light to me about it. I know that they truly think they are the Church of Christ of the early Church…
Friend, I’m going to try to assist you, and I pray that you are open to the Holy Spirit to work in your life:)

One can have no serious discussion on an issue without agreeing on a “framework,” a foundation for the discussion.

So let’s begain by building our Catholic foundation. It’s not Opinion, it is ALL historically proveable fact.

FACT: The RCC is the only Church founded by Jesus Christ Himself. Mt. 16;18-20 (I’ll be happy to provide detailed support of all of this if you require it?

FACT: St. Peter was personally given the “keys” to The Kingdom, by Jesus Himself. Mt. 16:19

FACT: Jesus is both True God and True Man

FACT: The bible is a Catholic Book. The entire New Testament was written by Roman Catholic Church Authors

FACT: From the time of Jesus appointing St. Peter to start, and administer His (only) Church. their has been (I can provide a list of names and dates) an UNBROKEN line of Succession, that has lasted up to the present time… some 2000 years!

If we are going to debate and discuss, it must be from this base. I will gladly explain any issues or opinions that differ from what I have just shared. Let be know your personal questions and concerns, and I will expalin each and everyone of them.

**FACT: Both the Late Great John Paul II, and Pope Benedict, have explained that on any, any, single issue their can only be ONE TRUTH.

Benedict expalins: "their cannot be your truth and my truth, or their would be “No TRUTH.”**

I am willing and able to give evidence of all that the RCC believes and teaches as the TRUTH.
I was raised Catholic and was taught that we were the only Church of Christ, so therefore, I feel that I am at time just being closed minded to them and I don’t want to be…-
Friend, when you are correct, and you are, you are also RIGHT:thumbsup: Because their is only one truth on every issue, and you have TRUTH on your side.

So let them present their opinions, and we’ll deal with them, one at a time:D
It upset me real bad when another will talk about another’s belief and how it is not Biblical.
And why is that? Their can logically be only one truth per issue.

Either it is in the bible, or it is not in the bible. That is not a lack of charity, rather it is a lack of proper understanding.🙂

Having said this. we Catholics accept Sacred Tradition (biblically proveable) and “Common Sense” as also being acceptable in teaching and sharing our RCC Faith,

So if someone holds a position that is NOT in the Bible or is actually “anti-biblical” (opposed to what is in the Bible) what PROOF, is their of the position that they put forth?
That truly upsets me. I then start feeling that my whole family is doomed to Hell because we are Catholics and not whatever they are.
God by God’s very NATURE is, and HAS TO BE, ALL everything that is Good, or God would not be God. So is being fair, being Just " a good?" Of course it is.

God clearly spells out what each and everyone of us must do in order to get to heaven. And by the way, one need not, be a Catholic to get to heaven. Still their are very specific “do’s’ and don’ts.”

God who is and has to be Just and fair, must apply these same criteria to all of humanity. If He didn’t He would not be God.
I feel that we all should not be divided the way we are. I feel in my heart that God our Father nor Jesus Christ wanted the division either…
.

You are 100% correct:clapping: :tiphat: Look carefully at Mt. 16:18-20, and pay particular attention to the exclusice use of “singular tense” words… “I,” “you,” “Peter,” “rock,” “My,” “Church” are all single person…

Clearly Jesus says in Mt. 16: 19 "19 I (Jesus speaking to Peter) will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

That my friend is pretty clear and concise.

I am qualified to answer any and all concerns. Please be specific.

May our Blessed Lord grant you peace, joy, love and understanding,

Your Brother in Christ Jesus,

May our Blessed Lord grant you peace, joy, love and understanding,

Your Brother in Christ Jesus,
What stirs my heart is that the Church that my husband goes to says that it is a sin to worship idols. Well, then the examples they gave me is Mother Mary, Saints, etc is a no no. They tell me that we should only pray to God in the name of Jesus. They also say that only Jesus is the mediator between me and God and not a Priest. They told me that I needed to stop going to the Catholic Church and to not associate with my family nor our Family Priest anylonger. That in itself has gotten my spirit so stirred up and confused. They would show me scriptures in the Bible but I also noticed that they don’t go to the next verse that goes with what they point out.

I have been telling my husband that I am a Catholic and that I am not happy spiritually with his Choice of Worship…he likes it because it is a small country Church to where he feels like they are like family. He likes that family feel of it. I go to Church for the Spiritual feeding and not for social gathering per sey…

Now the person that gives the sermons wants to do a Bible Study on the Holy Spirit. That does not make sense to me because I Believe in the Holy Spirit already and don’t need to study about the Holy Spirit. I did let him know how strong I believed already in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. End of discussion as far as I am concerned. I think that they throw out scriptures one after another to confuse a person to believe what they tell you…

I may be being a tad defensive but I am just not a happy camper.

Thank You and may God Bless you also.
Much love in Our Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

If they are anything like the Church of Christ churches I knew in Florida, they are 100% anti-Catholic. I personally would not care to fellowship with people that not only thought my Church was in error (that I could accept I suppose?) but felt that I was NOT even a Christian (unacceptable.)

Maybe they won’t be like that though. I hope for the best for you.

Well, if so, then I just will not go there for any reason then. I care more about my soul and spiritual feeding than being around people that call themselves Christians but their actions speak louder than words…and to me it is not Christian like to judge others. They don’t know a persons heart. Only God does…

Thank you for your advice

My dear friend;

What I shared was a direct bible quote. How, may I ask, was it “out of context?” I look forward to your reply?

And while I’m at it; how can historically proveable facts be irrelevant?

I am wide open to Criticism, so what evidence do you give of YOUR position:shrug:

God bless you, I look forward to hearing what ever it is your trying to share:)

CHURCHES OF CHRIST
Code:
The churches of Christ teach that they follow the New Testament pattern completely. They share with the Catholic Church the claim that they are the one true church, founded by Christ. They preach that their church is like the ark before the flood: you'd better get on board! As already stated, they do not have instrumental music, and they have communion every Sunday, but do not believe in transubstantiation. In a way, they represent the more radical and 'low-church' wing of the Reformation. Theologically, they are fundamentalist.

The churches of Christ were part of the Campbellite movement of the 19th century. Campbell tried to unite the churches - Protestants - but only succeeded in founding a new denomination. Around the turn of the century, about 1900, the churches of Christ broke off from the Disciples of Christ, also known sometimes as the Christian Church. The Disciples have developed into a liberal denomination, strongest in the midwest and Texas. LBJ was a member of that group. I have a feeling that maybe Reagan was also, but perhaps not. (I use a small c for churches of Christ because they reject the idea that they are a denomination, even though they obviously have become on.)

There has been some discussion of a union between the Disciples of Christ and the United Church of Christ. The UCC is a liberal denomination, a merger of the old Congregationalists of Pilgrim/Puritan background, founders of Harvard and Yale, etc., with the Evangelical and Reformed Church, which had a similar theology and polity but was basically of German origin. The UCC permits a congregation to decide if, for example, it will ordain or call gay and lesbian clergy, and some of their ministers will officiate at same-sex civil union ceremonies. Theologically, the UCC embraces people of many different views. It is not a creedal church but emphasizes the freedom of the individual to believe and worship as s/he chooses.

What characterizes all of these groups is that they are congregational in polity. Each congregation governs itself, chooses its own pastor, sets its own local rules, etc. They believe that the early Christians were organized in such a fashion rather than having a hierarchial setup as in Catholicism.

In Canada, incidentally, there is no Congregational Church. In 1925 it united with the Methodists and most Presbyterians to become the United Church of Canada. (Some Presbyterians did not join the merger.)

Relatives who were Congregationalists in New England years ago joined the Disciples of Christ (Christian Church) when they moved to the midwest. The two groups are very similar. Whether or not we agree with their views, they are fine folks - including my relatives!

**Scooter, what is the best spiritual food? Is it not the Word of God? I was afraid there might be some strife with the spouse; I pray it doesn’t hurt you or him…I will pray.

Try to keep in mind where people’s hearts are when they give you advice or their opinion and be like the Bereans and see for yourself through the Word. These people are concerned for your soul more than they are against a Catholic church.

I have an email on file where I am at liberty to speak more freely.

Hang in there; I can tell this is really stressing you and that is not good for anyone. Bless you dear.**

Roy, that was very informative and I have a co-worker that is part of the Church of Christ and I can see the work of God in her; she stands out of the crowd with integrity and honesty and hard work.

An HOUR? Mt Home and Elisabeth are only 15 miles apart.

If you are outside of Elisabeth, look around at www.masstimes.org - you may find a closer parish.
I live about 6miles from the main Hwy 62 and then the Church is on dyer rd by Baxter Regional Hospital…It takes me an hour to get to the Hospital but only 40 or so minutes to get to Walmart in Mtn Home. It is just further into the town of Mountain Home…

I live in the Valley of Elizabeth Arkansas which is Rural Country. I have googled Catholic Churches and it seems to be the closest. I figure that I would go to Mass on Saturdays and then stop by Walmart on my way home if I need. That is where I grocery shop anyways…

Thank you so much

Because of the independence of some of these bodies, it can sometimes be difficult to put a finger on what they believe. I encountered one Church of Christ congregation that considered themselves Catholic, in a sedevacante sense, while electing their priest and deacons from within the congregation.
Can’t say if there are other like them under the same name, or whether this group still exists.
It is better to stick with a Church that can trace its roots to 33 AD.
Viva il Papa!

Very good, because Informed, Practcing Catholics Don’t!

“Oh yes you do!” you pray to Mary and the Saints.

Indeed we do, but it’s HONOR, not WORSHIP! And it would be more accurate to say that we pray THROUGH, than it is to say that we pray “to” but both are correct.

The most often prayed Marian prayer, The Hail Mary ends with the words: “pray for us sinners now, and the hour of our death.” That is precisely what is meant by “praying through” not just “to.”

“Hail Mary” is saying “hello Mary.” It’s a greeting (Lk. 1:26) not worship.

Have they or you ever asked you to pray for them, or someone who is sick? What is the difference? Both are one human praying for another sinner!
Well, then the examples they gave me is Mother Mary, Saints, etc is a no no. They tell me that we should only pray to God in the name of Jesus.
I do not believe it says that in the bible. What it does say; in fact the First Commandment is, "you shall have no strange gods before me."

We don’t. Catholics beleive that Redemption is through Jesus Alone!

We pray THROUGH Mary and the Saints because they have accomplised what we are striving to do, namely get to heaven. Mary and the Saints are already in God’s presence. They are our friends, and pray to God for us!
They also say that only Jesus is the mediator between me and God and not a Priest.
Good for them, they learned this from our CATHOLIC BIBLE! And we agree with them!

Look in up in the dictionary: “mediator” and “intercessor” are the same action!
They told me that I needed to stop going to the Catholic Church and to not associate with my family nor our Family Priest anylonger.
Really:D Want to have some “fun” with them?

Ask them to explain Mt. 16: 18-20 — John 20:23 — and John 6: 40-60.

These verses:
  1. Is Jesus telling Saint Peter that he alone is being the keys to the Kingdom of heaven. This power passes from Pope to pope.
  2. John 20: "21* Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” 22* And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. *23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” ** How about that:thumbsup:
  3. And John Chapter six:“53 So Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; 54 he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56* He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me. 58* This is the bread which came down from heaven, not such as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live for ever.” 59* This he said in the synagogue, as he taught at Caperna-um." This tells them that ONLY in the Catholic Church (s) can one find Jesus today! In Person! So why would you are anyone want to leave Jesus? Not a sign, not a symbol…read again the words of Jesus who is God and can’t lie!
That in itself has gotten my spirit so stirred up and confused. They would show me scriptures in the Bible but I also noticed that they don’t go to the next verse that goes with what they point out.
Laura, I encourage you to get your bible out and look these up, and please read the verses before and after what I shared.
I have been telling my husband that I am a Catholic and that I am not happy spiritually with his Choice of Worship…he likes it because it is a small country Church to where he feels like they are like family. He likes that family feel of it. I go to Church for the Spiritual feeding and not for social gathering per sey…
That’s nice:) But can he receive Jesus, be in the very Presence of the God that made him? Can he go to Confession, and know, absolutely lnow that his sins have been forgiven? Laura, you have the “Way, the Truth and the Light,” and they have fellowship. YOUR THE WINNER:clapping: :extrahappy:

Laura, so long as you know that their is ONE God with three Divine and seperate Natures (that are seperate but can’t be seperated) your in good shape. Simply decline the invitation. It might be good to avoid these other religious meeting as they are causing unrest within your Soul. Pray about it.
I may be being a tad defensive but I am just not a happy camper.

My dear friends,

They seem to be LONG on “this is what we believe”

And very short, on evidence on why they beleive it. If it’s in the bible, fess up. If not…😃 , oh well:hmmm: :hypno: :ehh:

Love and prayers,

My dear friend;

What you call historical I would call something totally different; if that verse were interpreted as God meant it, I know of at least one religion that would fall. But that is not for this thread and you already know the arguments.

Julian was the emperor of the Holy Roman Empire who tried to reverse the decision of Constantine. You remember back in the fourth century, Constantine had determined that the whole of the Roman Empire would become Christian and he established Christianity as the only religion and anybody who fought against that was persecuted. A little history.**
