Hi,
As you can see we are already fighting.:o

May I suggest get the info. you want on catholocism here and then go to crosswalks.com and ask them what non-catholics believe and then compare for yourself.šŸ‘
All you are going to get on this thread is each side defending itself:rolleyes:
Well, maybe we can all try to do a little better than simply defending ourselves. Both sides are capable of articulating their beliefs and can generally point to the things distinguish Catholics from non-Catholics. I have observed this in you and you are able to do so in a friendly manner. Let’s not lose hope. Peace and blessings.

I hope you are right–I just see this thread going down a different path.😦

Thanks for the kind words.😊

Lutherans have their official teachings, as does the RCC, as do the Orthodox, as do the Trads, as do the Anglicans, as do the Coptics, as do the Baptists, as do the Methodists, as does Calvary Chapel, as do the autocephalous Catholic churches, etc…, etc…
Okay. Now that we have them all in one pile, which one is different from all the others?

Which one was founded by Christ?

Which one has a line of succession going back to the time of the Apostles?

Which one is a world-wide organization that has existed continuously in a visible manner, putting its lamp out on a hillside for all to see (so to speak), ever since the time of Christ?

All Protestants are all Protestants.
I am not going to get too much into this but I had to chuckle, Atemi reminds us that protestants not only protest catholics but each other he he…it’s the fundamental basis of all protestant churches PROTESTING! Nicely done:thumbsup:

I’m sorry, but that’s not funny at all.

If I’m not mistaken, the foundation of Christianity is the belief that we are all born into original sin and someone had to pay the price, and that person was Jesus Christ, and the only way to get into Heaven is to admit we are sinners and accept His sacrifice. The church I attend believes that, and I believe it. Have I been lied to?Without Jesus Christ, there is no hope for this world.

The Catholic Church is not a denomination. There were no denominations prior to the Reformation. The Catholic Church existed prior to the Reformation and, therefore, does not fall into the category of a denomination.
The Orthodox and Catholic Churches excomunicated each other 500 years before Martin Luther was born. From the viewpoint of Catholic or Orthodox adherents, the other is a denomination. You all can fight it out as to who is correct. From the viewpoint of Protestants, the Catholic, Orthodox and the various Protestant Churches are all denominations, i.e., a distinct body of believers under an independent jurisdictional hiearchy.

Not quite…The Catholics and Orthodox share 98% +/- in doctrine. Moreover, we recognize one another’s priestly orders and sacraments as valid.

Andromeda-

Have you been washed in the blood of Jesus and accepted Him as your personal Lord and Savior?

And don’t forget brother that Jesus Christ started a church, the Holy, Apostolic, Catholic and the reformation once again ripped asunder the body of Christ subjecting him to that pain all over gain. And just as the Romans tore His seamless garment so did the reformation tear His seamless garment. Remember brother, you’re on a Catholic forum, your a guest here, welcome.

If we are to be honest…and that we must…it is also impossible to identify any specific belief that would be held by all Catholics either.

Pointing out an issue with one and ignoring the same issue with another is not the best assessment one can make.
Fortunately, the misinformation or errancy of individual Catholics does not detract from the whole truth that is taught by the Church. There is no lack of integration in it, and it holds the teachings of Jesus, as given to the Apostles.

Hebrews 5: 1-10, Every high priest is taken from among human beings and is appointed to act on their behalf in relationships with God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins; he can sympathise wirh those that are ignorant or have gone astray, because he is subject to limitations of weakness. That is why he has to make sin offerings for himself and for his people. No one takes this honour on himself; it needs a call from God as in Aarons case. And so it was not Christ who gave himself to glory of becoming high priest, but the one who said to him;

You are my son, today I have fathered you, and in another text: You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek. During his life he offered up prayers and entreaties with loud cries and with tears, to the one who had the power to save him from death, and, winning a hearing by his reverance he learned obedience, Son though he was, through his sufferings; when he had been perfected, he became for all who obey him the source of eternal salvation and was acclaimed by God with the title of high priest in the order of Melchizedek.
John 20: 23, If you forgive anyones sins they are forgiven; retain they are retained.

Peace, OneNow1

The only problem is is that they say they are Christ’s one, true church exclusively…but you say, no, you are.

This goes way beyond ā€œ98%.ā€

And what do Protestants say? Where are their Apostolic successors? What claim do the Protestants have to Christ’s one true Church?

All of them are different from one another…some more so than others.
Which one was founded by Christ?
Not a single one of them.

Christ founded one church, one Body, and it cannot be identified by any one of the above alone.
Which one has a line of succession going back to the time of the Apostles?
A few make that claim.

Others are not as interested in leadership pedigrees and genealogies, but in obeying God’s Word.
Which one is a world-wide organization that has existed continuously in a visible manner, putting its lamp out on a hillside for all to see (so to speak), ever since the time of Christ?
Not a single one of them.

…

And you say this as you sit here protesting non-RC churches?

You protest non-RC churches just as much as they protest yours.

It seems you are just as good at it.

Firstly, Protestantism in not a religion, but a grouping of over 33,000 different denominations of Christianity, many of which deny any association with the others.

Secondly, although there is no common set of doctrines held by all 33,000+ different Protestant denominations, some even denying the label ā€œProtestantā€, they all seem to hold to these three core doctrines:
  1. A 66-book Bible with a shorter version of Daneil and Esther
  2. A ā€œBible Aloneā€ rule of faith
  3. Justification by ā€œFaith Aloneā€
Catholics and Orthodox deny the truth of above three tenets of Protestantism.
Couldn’t we add here the denial of sacraments? I don’t know of any that keep all the sacraments, and most deny the divine extension of grace from them.

Not a single one of them.
So, Christ lied to St. Peter, when He promised to protect His Church? (Matthew 16:18-19) But, if Christ lied, then why should we worship Him? :hmmm:

What happened to Christ’s organizational church - the one that we read about in the Book of Acts, and throughout the epistles of the New Testament? 🤷

Oh, wait … St. Peter’s successor is alive and well today - in fact, he’s celebrating his 80th birthday right now - :extrahappy: - his name is Pope Benedict XVI. You may even have heard of him (because of that lamp on a hillside thingy) … šŸ˜‰

Nope son, just defending the true church, there’s difference, and remember you came here. As an ex-protester I figure you must either be really bored or filled with lots of bravado, gotta get me some of them Catholics so I can get a few more notches in my bible belt or something like that. You seem to be nothing more than a disenter and that’s concerning, makes one wonder what’s behind it? You also make all of the great protestant brothers and sisters here who are kind and actually dialouge intelligently look bad so think about them as well k?
