CatholicMatch has gone downhill since 4 Marks took over.
I kind of agree with that.CatholicMatch has gone downhill since 4 Marks took over.
I know that a lot of the non-Catholic churches in my hometown are putting a lot of effort to match their singles with others in the same religion (ie Baptist with Baptist, etc.). And they are booming population-wise (well, married people have sex, which leads to babies, and since the parents are still in the church, the kids get raised in that faith). And the Catholic population here is shrinking. Hmmm…Havana1, I don’t think the church owes me a matchmaking service. If I met someone special at church, that would be great, but not the main point of the church. I do admit to being frustrated with God for my single state. I’ve certainly prayed about it.
If marriage is a sacrament (which it is), then yes, I absolutely think the Catholic Church owes single Catholics some assistance in obtaining that sacrament. There should be benefits to being a confirmed member of the church Jesus founded. Getting the diocesan newspaper is a benefit. Getting the donation envelopes is a benefit. So, too, should Catholic singles get the benefit of some bloomin’ acknowledgment that some of us would love to get married if we could.Havana1, I don’t think the church owes me a matchmaking service. Yeah, and some people think that’s a mystery. Wow. Imagine that. Some people are apparently so clueless on the “fallen-away Catholic” thing that you give 'em a quarter and they still have no theories. I quit going to my home parish because after having gone to the same mass for 3 years no one ever once said hello to me. I was just invisible. I have to admit that’s how the church sometimes makes me feel. I was in a singles group that basically got dissolved because of lack of support from the church. The church I go to now isn’t much better but at least the music is an improvement and people greet you even if it’s only just in politeness.Yeah, and some people think that’s a mystery. Wow. I think that they would more than make up for lost numbers to other faiths if catholics just followed the church’s teaching contraception. Besides I have seen on many occasions that parishes try to arrange activities for singles but not one person shows up.I know that a lot of the non-Catholic churches in my hometown are putting a lot of effort to match their singles with others in the same religion (ie Baptist with Baptist, etc.). I know of lot of my single friends who were Catholic left the faith soon after college and went other non-Catholic Christian faiths. And then they set me up with the single men in their churches. So it most likely I will end up with a non-Catholic if I stay in Salem. And when I get married, it would be easier for me to conform to the husband’s faith (since he is the spiritual head of the household), and any kids will be raised in that faith.
It’s not ideal, but it’s realistic looking at the population here.
Which would pertain to singles how? With whom would a single engage in NFP? They’re single…! “Single” means no partner…I think that they would more than make up for lost numbers to other faiths if catholics just followed the church’s teaching contraception.
Well, loosely worded, I am single and “use” NFP…meaning I chart my cycles for my health. It has been an amazing process of discovery and appreciation for God’s design, as well as an eye opener to some health problems I wouldn’t have known I had.Which would pertain to singles how? Single Catholics already are following Church teaching on contraception without even knowing it.
