But who are you to judge anyone? This is absolutely untrue. Instead of you telling me to study my bible in which I have, perhaps you should study your Catholic faith first.
And who are you? You’ve made quite a judgement about me, resorting to lies and wild accusations to bolster that judgment.

So far, all you’ve said is that you disagree. Otherwise it’s been all personal attacks.

You’re obviously very unsettled by this topic…

You said that I listed some statistics (I didn’t). If you believe that Catholics know the Bible as well as they could, why don’t you offer more than “no sa” and personal attacks, and offer your own statistic?

Because to offer a statistic would be impossible as I don’t know what truly is in the heart of all Christians. I go by what I see in my bible classes and who I know. The Catholics who are very holy, and love God. Just because they don’t jump out with John 7:8, doesn’t mean they don’t know their bibles. Catholics need to know their history. Even where the bible comes from as well as Protestants.

Rightiousone:…you say “So what you are saying is everyone went to hell BEFORE the bible was put into printing presses in the 1500’s? And who is ignorant of Scripture here?”

Ans: Is one saved from going to hell by the Bible or lack of it?

The Scriptures are authentinic and authoritive in their own right all the way back to the days of Moses’ recording of Genesis… they did not and do not require church leaders to collate them into some tomb to make them authentic or authoritive nor do they require church leaders to interpret them and lead us ‘poor ignorant folks into the light’… people have been saved since the dawn of time through their faith in God…others have and sadly are still going to hell due to their unbelief

Looking at your previous posts you appear to be angry with everyone who does not bow the knee to your will beware “a fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions” Proverbs 18: 2 :banghead:

Then you don’t know that you’re right, but you know you’re right. ???

Really, this is just ridiculous.

We all know Catholics who know their Bible reasonably well. If we’re honest, we’ll admit that we all know Catholics who don’t know the Bible. My argument wasn’t that Catholics don’t ever read the Bible.

You really need to go back and read my original post–the first in this thread–and flip through the threads to figure out who really said what. You’re going around the forum blasting people for no reason, making nutting accusations and misattributing statements. Calm down and slow down, and think about things for a minute before you post.

I think it was St Jerome who said, “Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ”. We can learn a whole bunch from reading the bible but we can also be steered wrong if we’re not guided in it by the Church. The Church is the teacher of our faith and if God thought it better that no written Word existed then the Church would still be our designated teacher without it-she would just use the oral Tradition like she did early on, in the case of the NT for the first few decades A.D., until she got around to writing everything down. But good bible studies are great and I used to be a part of one at our parish but we couldn’t keep the interest up so well. Maybe it’s time to try again.

The posters statement is vague. For the reason in some countries Catholics have no access to reading materials, or are able to read themselves. So how do they learn of the Gospels. By going to Mass, and to be taught by the Holy Apostolic Catholic church, just like the begining of christianity, when there was no new testament bible, only Oral and Sacred Traditions recorded the New Testament.
  1. Jesus, 2. Apostles 3. Oral tradition 4 Sacred Tradition 5 400 years later a cannon of scripture (the bible). Our bishops symbolized by their miter the two ribbons represent the old and the new testaments. When you see a bishop or a Pope wearing his miter, you are literally looking at a walking bible in person.
Its wonderful to be a Catholic to know our bishops and Popes live out the scriptures and teach them to us. By their christian life they lead, and by the apostolic teachings the teach. Faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God. Reading is beneficial, but to give witness of your faith is not knowledge of the scriptures, it is how you are living your Christian faith according to the teachings of Jesus Christ.

peace be with you

My friend it is an HISTORICAL FACT that what you have in your hands, the bible, was GIVEN TO YOU BY THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH. Whether you choose to believe it or not.
I never said the Scriptures are not authorative and authentic. Just saying FOR A FACT that yours and every other bible comes from Rome. It was settled (must explain this a million times) in 397 A.D. at the council of Carthage. The Roman Pontiff decided what was to be in the bible and what was not.
Because Protestants have 7 books less than Catholics, why is that? Because Luther took them out. Get it?
Hey, be mad at God for choosing the Catholic church for this as God Almighty chose the church to compile the bible.

And I don’t have an angry bone in my body. Those are your words.

Rightiousone…you are beginning to believe your own properganda…the Bible was written, in 3 different languages, on 4 different continents and by 40 different writers over 1500 years…due to heresy within the growing church it was decided, and not by ‘Rome’, that to help counteract such heresy it would be good to collate all the existing authentic and authoritive writings into one publication referred to as the ‘Canon of Scripture’, it took on the name ‘Bible’ from the town of Biblious where the material for its publication was first taken from.

The ‘protestant’ Bible was translated in part from the Greek Septugant and this accounts for some of the technical differences between those protestant versions and the Jeruselem Bible of the Roman Catholic religion - which was translated in part from the Latin Vulgate (completed in A.D. 404) By Jerome.

It was Jerome that included the books of the Apocrypha in this version of the Bible…even though Jerome himself said they were not ‘books of the canon’ but merely ‘book of the church’ he supported their inclusion believing them to be useful to believers.

The protestants rejected their includion on several grounds, not least that they were were full of errors and contridictions that undermined Scripture itself, but more importantly bore no evidence of being ‘devinely inspired’ or used by the writters and teachers of Scripture in any of the preceeding centuries of Scriptures existence and use. 👍

Scriptures of the Old Testament (which was inspired by the word of God) in their own tongue; and this gave use to translations of the bible into Armenian and Syriac and Coptic and Arabic and Ethiopic for the benefit of the Christians in these lands. for the christians in Africa, where Latin was best understood, there was a translation of the bible made into Latin about 150 A.D., and, later, another and better for the Christians in Italy; but these were finally superseded by the grand and most important version made by St. Jerome in Latin called the “Vulgate”—that is the common, or current or accepted version. this was the fourth century of our era. By this time St. Jerome was born, there was great need of securing a correct and uniform text in Latin of Holy Scripture, for there was danger, through the variety and corrupt conditions of many translaions then existing, lest the poor Scripture should be lost.
St. Jerome who was a monk, a Catholic monk, and perhaps the most learned scholar of his day, at the command of Pope St. Damascus in 382 A.D., made a fresh Latin version of the New Testament (which by this time was practically settled) correcting the existing versions by the earliest Greek MSS. he could find. Then in his cell at Bethlehem, between approximately the years 392-404, he also translated the OT into Latin directly from Hebrew (and not the Greek Septuagint) This bible was the official text of the Catholic church, the value of which all scholars admit to be simply inestimable, and which continued to influence all other versions, and to hold the chief place among Christians down to the Reformation. I say the “official text” because the Council of Trent in 1546 issued a decree, stamping it as the only recognized and authoritive version allowed to Catholics. “If anyone does not receive the entire Vulgate Edition, as Sacred and Canonical…let him be anathema”.It was revised under pope Sixtus V in 1590, and again under Pope Clement VIII in 1593, Who is responsible for the present standard text. ** It is this Vulgate that the commission under Cardinal Gasquet, By command of the pope.
Don’t you understand that Rome reigned supreme? The Roman Catholic church is the bible’s maker and defender. 👍

… that is why I also have a Douay-Rheims Bible which is based on the Vulgate.

Rightiousone…Thank you for articulating the rise of the Roman Catholic Bible so well…with the exception of the supremacy of Rome…I am not going to split hairs, I see little to argue about here over the chronology of the events as described, I don’t dispute the origin of the Roman Catholic Bible, I prefer the order and content as described by Athanasius Bishop of Alexandria and Melito Bishop of Sardis. Origen and Eusebius would appear to be in agreement with them…

It’s a whole new argument to claim Roman Catholic dominance of Christendom and the non-Christian world as the reason we who are ‘Christian’ and outside of the Roman Catholic religion should bow the knee.

From Constantine to the 4th century Rome has sought by the blood of the Saints and the power of the state to coerce believers and non-believers to join Rome. By the 12th Century the Roman Catholic Religion steeped in blood became established in the form so easily recognised today, it carried its blood letting on down the centuries, which only really began to cease with the dawn of the enlightenment period of world history.

However much Rome tried to coerce or eliminate the Christian and Non Christian alike, we as Ambassador’s of Christ are still here remaining a ‘thorn in the side which God has refused to remove’ from the flesh of Roman Catholicisim; to borrow a qoute from the Apostle to the Gentiles. 👍

Curiousone, you are missing the whole point. I am not talking ‘bloodshed’. All non-Catholics think is that Rome was this ‘murderous cult’ from beginning to end. Simply not true and I resent you saying this about my church that Christ started.
Now, like I’ve said, YOUR BIBLE COMES FROM THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. Whether you pocess a Catholic one or another, IT ALL COMES FROM THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH. You wouldn’t even have a bible today if it wasn’t for THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH. period.
What is it that your not getting here? It is an historical fact, even Protestants understand this…

Curious one; your opinon of how the bible came to be only shows pieces of an incomplete history, secondly, you are raising some late protestant arguments against the Septuagint, that have been historically found false. I dont want to change the course of this thread. I can accept criticism of my Catholic faith, but if the criticism deals with falsehood, I believe correction may be in order. So I will leave you with just a few facts:
  1. Jesus is the founder of The Roman Catholic Church ( see your local library)
  2. The holy bible was canonized by the Catholic Church councils, bishops, Popes.
  3. Martin Luther removed 7 of the canonized books from the KJversion of the Holy bible, because he agreed with the first century Jews who tried to discredit Jesus and his first century Catholic church by making a false claim that Jesus quoted from these 7 books which had no Hebrew counterparts to the Greek text thus making the case against Jesus as a false prophet because Jesus quoted from the (Greek) Septuagint, 300 times in the New Testament.( I bet your protestant bias history has not revealed this to you).
  4. fact; update, 1947 at Qumran in the deadsea scrolls the Hebrew counterparts to the missing books were found, thus disqualifying Luther’s and the first century Jews argument for removing God’s word from his bible and trying to discredit Jesus and his Catholic church which he founded upon Peter the “Rock”.
5.Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit inspired the body of Jesus Christ his Roman Catholic Church to authenticate and canonize the complete bible which we have today. Except for the KJversion of the Holy Bible, that is missing 7 God breathed books of the bible, and Martin Luther added the word “Alone” to the book of Romans which is a no no according to Revelations.

So I ask you; which bible would you like to have, the Holy bible to which Jesus Quoted from, or from a version of the Holy Bible that removed Jesus Quotations (KJversion that came into existance 1600 years later), to discredit Jesus teachings in the first century and his Catholic church, which was underground and under severe persecution. Where do you think most of our Saints, martyred Popes came from these time periods.

Its ok to make comments or opinions about my Roman Catholic faith, but make them out to be historical fact, unless you have the full historical fact to support it, and not base it on bias opinion.

Peace be with you

Gabriel on of 12…Jesus was not the founder of the Roman Catholic Religion (church), check your own history or better still read your Bible…church history is very clear the church of Rome following the false conversion of Constantine went appostate to the true faith in the words of scripture…“For although they claimed to be wise they became fools and exchanged the glory of God” they combined with paganisim and sowed the seeds that flowered into the Roman Catholic Religion (church), this did not happen until the 4th century, in the 8th century structure of the Roman Catholic Church truely began to emerge and was firmly established by the 12th Century…it is that model of the 12th century that persists to the current day with few refinements…the source material later collated in to one codex, had been in existence for over 1500 years before the codex came into being, right from the onset there was division over the final number of books to be included in this new single format (designed for ease of use by all and for combatting heresy growing within the church), the Roman Catholic Religion (often reffered to as the church) did not approve the content until the 15th Century and did so as a final act of separation from the true faith…👍

**Just one thing.

We know the Creed. every catholic knows it.**

Probably some misconception about Catholic not knowing the bible. I would rather say not reading it on a daily basis. Anyway some christain does not read bible daily as well. I am one such person who don’t (don’t hv to deny the truth). Therefore i don’t agree to this threat, otherwise i wonder whats’ all the catholic doing during Mass, aren’t they listening to gospel with interpretation from the Priest. In fact , catholics should be more well verse with bible and interpretation then the christian because they have the entire bible interpreted by the priest…

Fortunately for Catholics, there is something called Ante-Nicene fathers, history, and reason that refutes this generic nonsense myth that is used by Protestants, Protestant derivatives, Muslims, Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses, and other religions that people make up while still wanting to involve Jesus. 👍

**Curious one: it is not only I, who says; that Jesus founded the Roman Catholic church, History confirms this, the religious Jewish community confirms this, and any ancient form of religion and worldly government that exists and existed confirm the Jesus founded the Roman Catholic church on St. Peter and the apostles and their successors. So you see, you argument is not with me, or the Roman Catholic church. You have to first discredit historical facts, governments, and outside religious christian communities that confirm Jesus founded the Roman Catholic Church. Then the apostles, Popes, saints and the blood of martyrs will confirm that these religious groups, governments history records the Roman Catholic church existed and Jesus founded not to mentioned history records many of these outside christian communities had to contend with the Roman pontiff.

As far as your claim of Constantine, the eastern Catholic church looks to him as a saint. The Roman Catholic church looks to him as a man who lifted the persecution of the already Popes and bishops of the Roman Catholic church. Please read up on the church history of Constantine, You have not recieved the full gospel truth and someone has misled you. Constantine as the sole Emperor of Pagan Rome, and conquered in the sign of the cross, is the reason for allowing the already existing Roman Catholic church to practice worship without persecution. Constantine was never a Roman Catholic Pope. This lie need not be heard here, unless you can provide a source, And No your Pastor’s opinion would not suffice your false claim. Please provide historical data.

To claim that the Roman Catholic church went into an apostacy. Is stating and confirming, first that the Roman Catholic church was in existance since the first century. Secondly, you are calling Jesus a Liar, because scripture records that Jesus promises his Church to never leave her orphans, and will be with her until the end of time. So I think the whole world would make you famous if you could provide us with facts to your false claim of an apostated Roman Catholic church.

Please dont take my comments as negative. I am just trying to clarify here your misunderstanding of the historical facts that exists. There was never an apostate Roman Catholic church. The burden of proof is on those who make this false claim. I am calling this a Lie from the father of Lies. Can you prove otherwise**?

“For although they claimed to be wise they became fools and exchanged the glory of God” they combined with paganisim and sowed the seeds that flowered into the Roman Catholic Religion (church), this did not happen until the 4th century,

**Your know curious one; I would like to take your opinions and answer them, but I find it hard to communicate with Lies. Dont you? Roman Cathlicism converted pagan Rome to Christianity. Not the other way around. Again you just proved that the Roman Catholic church existed in these early times because you have the Catholic church here with pagan Rome. Secondly it is a fact that during these trying times, Catholic christian blood was still being spilled to uphold the teachings of Jesus Christ. Why do you think The Roman Catholic church has so many martyred Popes and Saints. I hope this commentary helps you to rethink your bias history, and seek out the truth of the 2000 year old unchanged Catholic Christian faith that Jesus founded upon Peter the Rock. Now you cant deny this, because it is in scriputure. Followed by writings from first century Christian martyrs and Popes.

By reading your latter part of your commentary; I find you all over the place in history with distorted facts. I am unable to place your thoughts to one time or event in history, because you are stating many opinions about history without evidence to support it, not to mention untrue accusations about the Roman Catholic church. Dont take anyone’s opinion, find out for yourself, the truth is not hidden it is there for all to see.

I welcome you here, you will learn alot about The True 2000 year old Christianity that still is practiced today in the Roman Catholic church.

Peace be with you**
