So I have been thinking about this for a while. I understand the Catholic Church does a lot of good in the world. I don’t want this to seem like an attack, because that is not at all what this is.
It seems that married couples having their own children is very much encouraged by the church, but why? With all the kids around the world, and in our own country that need to be adopted.
The Church is strongly opposed to abortion (which I agree with), and says that adoption is the best alternative. So why are more Catholics not encouraged to adopt?
The Church also has a negative attitude in regards to same-sex couples adopting, that is one area that I disagree with the Church 100%, and will not apologize. God creates people for reasons, and sometimes we don’t think about why. I believe one of the ways same-sex couples can benefit society is to adopt the children straight couples are not adopting, because they are choosing to have their own children instead. There are gay couples that should not adopt, there are straight couples that should not adopt. But there are still many that are, both straight and gay, that make fantastic parents and should be encouraged to adopt.
I don’t think we should expect “other people” to do the adopting, and then at the same time complain about all the gay couples being allowed to adopt. If you are going to complain, then you should be doing something about it. You can’t have it both ways.
And one last thing to remember. There are gay couples in the Catholic Church. They should be considered for adoption, because the children will be raised in a Christian home, even though it’s not the “ideal” household. It is a thousand times better than sitting in an orphanage.
