Catholics believe that its okay to drink alcohol.
The problem is that most things, from the strong to the relatively mild, can be considered a drug, such as coffee.

Is it okay to consume canabis?

You can drink a glass of red wine or guinness now and then and it is in fact beneficial to health, and it is legal in most countries.
Cannabis causes schizophrenia, its also illegial in most countries and in buying it you are eventually paying for hitmen, crime-bosses and so on. You become part of the crime world - that does not bother some too much, though.

I would agree that Jesus would not condone bad things happening from drunkeness. However, it appears the people had already had enough to drink where more might make them drunk when Jesus turned the water into wine. I don’t have the exact quote but wasn’t there a comment on how the good wine was supposed to be given out first since that way when people are drunk they don’t realize how bad the cheap wine taste? Of course Jesus I assume turned the water into the highest quality of wine which is what would cause this comment.

My personal opinion on canabis is be safe about it and don’t get caught. There is always the slightest chance something could go wrong and mess up your brain if you get a bad batch and since I value my intelligence more than anything, (besides my Catholic faith) I wouldn’t ever take any kind of risk like that no matter how minimal. I’m even careful not to drink too much and try only to get drunk a couple times a year. Even so, I personally don’t have anything against people that do pot and don’t find anything sinful about it per se.

Thank you everyone for your post. They have all given me something to reflect upon. I stoped smoking skunk years ago, because it was eating up all my money; plus i was smoking far to much of it. It was making my depression worse.

You posts have also raised another issue. Legality. Obviously, if the goverment made “Catholic mass” illegal, we would not think it a sin to continue going to mass. But at what point does it become a sin to ignore Goverment Law?

It is not a sin to ignore government law only when it interferes with God’s law. God comes first, always. Country comes second.

There are conflicting theories on the health bennefits of moderate consumption. Some say that a glass of grape juice provides the same bennefits as the glass of red wine. But I’m not taking and chances

The problems cited above are primarily related to the government ban on pot, not the pot itself. Not sure about the mental disorders caused by pot but comparing people I know who have smoked to those I know who have not smoked, I say there is a good case to support the theory that pot has a long term negative effect on mental capability.

It is a sin to deliberately harm yourself.

Government has a resonable, if not solid, case to ban the use of pot. As such the wilfull disregard of a reasonable law is wrong. although I do not see any problem in engaging in legal efforts to revise that law such as the medical pot debate.
