Maybe it’s the cuckoo clocks - or lack thereof
Its as good of a theory as I have heard…Maybe it’s the cuckoo clocks - or lack thereof![]()
No, my grandmother’s house is FULL of cuckoo clocks… believe me, it does nothing to stem violence.Maybe it’s the cuckoo clocks - or lack thereof![]()
Especially when they all go off at once? No, my grandmother’s house is FULL of cuckoo clocks… believe me, it does nothing to stem violence.
Canadian tire shops sell ammunition?Another difference between Canada and Switzerland is that very time I see a good deal on ammo at Canadian Tire or Bass Pro I can stock up.
Canadian Tire is like a Menards or Home Depot in the United States. They sell the same type of hardware and things of that sort, as well as ammunition.Canadian tire shops sell ammunition?

:bigyikes:I should add that I agree with you on the fact that it is not as simple as looking at the number of guns and predicting the rate of crime. Unfortunately, that is what many wish to boil it down to and the only way to combat that perception is to meet them on their own ground from an argument standpoint. My personal take is that the two have very little to do with each other and I believe I have solid evidence to back that belief up with.
As I stated earlier in the thread, we need to stop focusing on the means that people use to commit crime and focus on the person instead. There is way too much political correctness in the world and many refuse to call a spade a spade. You mentioned cultural diversity or the lack thereof in Switzerland earlier, and I agree with you. That is a contributing factor. If I were to point out that in many states in the US approx. 25% of violent crime is committed by illegal immigrants, many dismiss that as racist. We can call the guy who killed people at the Sikh temple as white supremacist and it is OK, but we can’t call the Fort Hood shooter an Islamist because it isn’t PC to do so.
Bottom line? It ain’t the guns.
Our local Walmart has both firearms and ammunition as well as tires. But the Home Depot has none of these. Our local Home Depot does not carry firearms or ammunition.
But I like the idea. I will bring it up to the store manager and see if he can add to his stock.
That’s the point that is so often forgotten. Do you think criminals really care if guns are illegal? All that gun restrictions do are take them out of the hands of good people who would do good with them.If you don’t like guns, don’t own them.
For those who would forcibly deny others to own guns, do you really think that a gun is one of the devil’s main tools to do his evil? Like if there were a lot less guns in the world the devil would cry and be stumped as to how to go about infecting people, turning them away from Christ, doing his dirty tricks, etc?
For those against guns, if you were out in public with your child and a man with a knife was running toward her with blood in his eyes, and you were on the other side of the park, not able to intervene in time… would you curse or thank the man who was there with a gun and got the man to stop before stabbing your baby daughter to death?
I don’t own a gun ( I live in a state that is highly restrictive, if I lived in VT or Alaska I probably would own one) but I personally would feel a LOT safer out in public if there are people there wearing guns on their hips. I doubt too many thieves are going to be pulling out either knives or guns and attempting to rob people in such circumstances.
In area’s where guns are highly prohibited, or very difficult to get legal permission to have and own, are not the crime rates like breaking and entering to rob higher? Don’t criminals (who disregard laws, including gun laws) prefer to do such crimes in neighborhoods where the likelihood of homeowners having guns in the house is very low, compared to neighborhoods/states which are ‘shall issue’ states and it’s extremely common for law abiding citizens to have handguns in their homes and on their persons?
Maybe you would yell out to that man who pulled out his gun to save the life of your daughter…“PUT THAT GUN AWAY!” “I’m her father, do NOT wave that gun at that man!!!”
I work with our HS choir. out church is in a high crime area with gang activity. The question is rather nebulous but I will guess that you are wondering about whether Catholics are allowed, in good conscience to own firearms…ne c’est pas?
Well I certainly hope so…I used them in the military and carried one daily for 25 years on a police department. I own about 15 pistols .rifles and shotguns which are in a safe except for the 9mm which I carry whenever I go away from my home. I enjoy marksmanship and value my 2nd amendment right to keep firearms.
What has this to do with my serious attachment to the Holy Church…wonderin’?![]()
It may seem that way, but there are a few other reasons that are legitimate:I have certainly never entertained the thought of owning a gun. My thoughts is that if one owns a gun then one is prepared to seriously maim or kill a another.
