which actions were justified and which weren’t?

for example, roman ghettos. what was the reason for it

Fr. Edward Flannery was the first director of Catholic-Jewish Relations for the U.S. Bishops’ Committee for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs, and devoted his life to reconciliation between Catholics and Jews.

His book, The Anguish of the Jews, is the definitive and authoritative work on the history of Catholic**/**Jewish relations. As the title suggests, he’s not going soft on the Church (which has undergone many shameful episodes - Jews wore armbands in some Catholic cities long before the Nazis came along).

Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice offers insight into how Jews were perceived by Christian cultures back in his day.

could you give me some highlights though?

has the church condemned anti-Semitism before the 20th century?

or did it actively teach anti-Semitism?

how did these shameful moments come to be?

The first Catholics were all Jewish and many of the practices and prayers are based on Jewish practices and prayers.
