Catholics and Lutheran Together

I was curious, especially from our Roman Catholic friends out there, what they think are good and positive ways Lutherans and Roman Catholics can work together at the grass roots, diocesan/parish level.

at least where I come from Lutherans tend to have thriving social justice ministries that lend themselves to ecumenical involvement, particularly in housing.
 
Various churches work together in our city to support the Women’s Shelter and Habitat for Humanity projects.

Local law enforcement might have suggestions:
  • volunteer programs to assist the elderly or disabled
  • children in neglect situations
  • counciling programs to combat addictions and compulsions
  • pregnancy assistance
 
My church just had our Oktoberfest and our German Catholic friends participated in getting the beer keg ready to be returned, and a good time was had by all. My church participates in a ministerium of area churches. We have several community services and the Catholic priest is very involved. If there is a conflict, like on Ash Wednesday, he does not participate since they have their own service. As another person has posted, we have worked on Habitat for Humanity projects. When I was by the HfH office one day last week, a Catholic youth group was just finishing up. We have all worked on setting up a homeless shelter. For a long time, we participated in a service and meal for Spanish speakers in the community, though I am not sure why that stopped. I am sure that there is no place where the needs of all are so well met that any of us can just sit in the pews and be satisfied with ourselves.

This particular old lady with a heart condition & a fixed income has been the happy recipient of such volunteer work, & it was much appreciated. I honestly don’t know what church each young person came from; I do know that when you need extensive work done to make your home more habitable, it is a real pleasure to see Christians banding together to work.
There is so much need in this world. I encourage anyone with a skill & the faith & charity to give that faith “feet” to pitch in.👍👍
