From p. 97 of the document:
“Much ecumenical work is needed to resolve how a mutual
recognition of ministry can advance given this asymmetry between Lutheran and Catholic views on who can be ordained. A number of ecumenical dialogues have found
it possible to make many common affirmations…” (end quote from statement)
Whatever happened to the search for Truth, as opposed to “many common affirmations”?
Here is a fictitious statement suggested by me, you will never find from an ecumenical dialogue, even those that been fruitless for 50 years or so:
“We now find that, given that the actual work departments and worship communities of our denominations have not appeared to benefit from our past ecumenical dialogues, we cannot continue to justify the time, attention, and money they absorb. Please take our budget and redistribute to ministries working directly with the poor, and evangelism. No need for another press conference.”
choke, sputter, cough, Excessive Honesty Warning Bell!
No, instead of that honesty, this is what you will always see recommended:
“Much ecumenical work is needed” (and needed, and needed…). When is the next press conference scheduled?"
