I’m wondering if the “Catholics” in the group are there by the sanction of the Archbishop of Portland. If you look on the archdiocesan website, under “Beaverton,” in Washington County, this mission isn’t listed as one of the Catholic parishes. Lots of groups call themselves Catholics, but aren’t in communion with the local ordinary or the pope.

It’s appalling, either way. They’ve a woman “pastor” and they’re “inclusive.”

Ya gotta know how to use their web site, The Mission of the Atonement is listed under St Anthony’s Parish in Tigard Oregon as…go figure…a Mission. Apparently it DOES have the full support of the Archbishop…who is authorized to grant such dispensations as this.

We Catholics were also at fault in the reformation.

Now, how do I feel about the group itself…my first concern was in seeing that they shared a day of fasting with their Muslim friends during Ramadhan…no mention at all of the Muslims sharing the fast of Lent.

From all appearances this looks like a legitimate community canonically speaking…and I’ve seen things like this in Europe…specifically in Taize, France (google it) I don’t know how comfortable I’d be there, but then again, I can only take the Latin Mass every now and again too.
