I was doing some study on Martin Luther and I am confused. What is the difference between the two views?

the only ones I have seen is
  1. Salvation through Faith Alone (I disagree because- Faith without works is dead)
  2. Bible is the Final Authority on matters( I agree because as far as I know, the Church follows scriptures to the fullest)
Am I on track and what are some other differences?

Hi, there.

By “views” I assume you mean the primary distinction between how the Church and Luther saw the two key matters of faith that you pointed out.

With that, consider the Catholic Answers tract on Reward and Merit regarding the old “Faith vs. Works” non-argument. Many misinterpret the definition of “works” as St. Paul describes it. He was warning the Jewish Christians that the works of the Mosaic Law–the various rituals and rules and restrictions–need no longer apply to them. Some Protestants believe incorrectly that Catholics believe that they can earn salvation. Many Protestants believe that only faith is required. St. Paul indicates that your faith must also be expressed in your acts to others, which differs from trying to earn anything from God. The answer has always been, for lack of a better term, “faith through works of faith.”

The sola scriptura argument is easily refuted by any actions that Luther brought to his new protesters’s churches that wasn’t in the Bible as well, clearly violating his own belief in the Bible alone. Minimizing the importance of various books in the Bible that didn’t fit his view didn’t help his argument, either. Again, another CA tract, this on Scripture and Tradition could get you started, although I’m sure there are more comprehensive references about.
