Let me ask it this way—how do you define “church where Christ is preached?”

Gloryb
I would say that is pretty self explanatory 🙂

Our religious education department participated in this for a couple of years. We discontinued it, however, after the DRE got some thank you letters from 19 and 20 year olds for the shoe boxes they received. Not that young adults don’t deserve presents too, but ours were labeled for children ages 5-12. (Each grade bought for their age group K-6.) So, this made the DRE rethink the reliability of the organization and we now do service projects for local organizations.

I know what you mean but it’s because I used to agree with you. Preaching Christ was telling people the one and only way that a saving faith can be had—the “way to the Way” I call it. The altar call and the invitation to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior are considered “preaching Christ”. Other churches simply do not preach Christ. That is what you mean, isn’t it?

While people are willing to say there are “some good Catholic churches” I find few believe it in practice. As one other poster said–the blood is only preached in the Eucharist. Well, to us that’s pretty big!!! Talk about walking down the aisle and accepting Christ!!! We really do it!!

I wish we were all of a similar mind so that we could unite in helping those less fortunate. Jesus prayed we would all be one and that this is the way people would know he and the Father are one. When we use terms like “church where Christ is preached” we are divisive. When Franklin Graham uses it and then asks the help of Catholic churches I get very confused. I’d like to think the best as I respect his father immensely. But somehow I feel involving ourselves where that language is used is working against what we believe is the truth.

Well yeah, that is basically what I meant. Any church that preaches any method of salvation besides Christ is false, plain and simple. And I know there are plenty of “protestant” churches that do this. I’m sure there are some individual Catholic churches as well. Not saying thats what Catholics belive, but I’m sure there are priests who veer from their church’s doctrine.

And keep in mind, Franklin Graham could have been referring to the United Church of Christ, many of whom don’t even recognize Jesus as God, or the Unitarian Universalists or some of the more ultra-liberal churches that preach false messages, and there are plenty of them.

I have also been wondering about Samaritan’s Purse since our Parish is preparing this years Christmas drive. I have given in the past but am now concerned. I read recently in Zenit news wire I believe that this was being used in Iraq, with the aid of the army (supporting those giving out the boxes) to try an convert the local Catholics. Did any one else hear or read this?
