Fr. John Corapi says we should each focus on our own “end times” by persevering in faith, hope and love. The “end times” for you and me is when we die.
Exactly! As the saying goes, “Live each day as if it is going to be your last…someday you will be right.”

Or as it says in Mark 13:32-33
32 'But as for that day or hour, nobody knows it, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son; no one but the Father. 33 'Be on your guard, stay awake, because you never know when the time will come.

Well, preceding what I wrote starting in the second paragraph of Post #15, here is what the Catechism of the Catholic Church says:
**The Church’s ultimate trial **
675 Before Christ’s second coming the Church must pass through a final trial that will shake the faith of many believers. The persecution that accompanies her pilgrimage on earth will unveil the “mystery of iniquity” in the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth. The supreme religious deception is that of the Antichrist, a pseudo-messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of his Messiah come in the flesh.
676 The Antichrist’s deception already begins to take shape in the world every time the claim is made to realize within history that messianic hope which can only be realized beyond history through the eschatological judgment. The Church has rejected even modified forms of this falsification of the kingdom to come under the name of millenarianism, especially the “intrinsically perverse” political form of a secular messianism.
677 The Church will enter the glory of the kingdom only through this final Passover, when she will follow her Lord in his death and Resurrection. The kingdom will be fulfilled, then, not by a historic triumph of the Church through a progressive ascendancy, but only by God’s victory over the final unleashing of evil, which will cause his Bride to come down from heaven. God’s triumph over the revolt of evil will take the form of the Last Judgment after the final cosmic upheaval of this passing world.
**II. TO JUDGE THE LIVING AND THE DEAD **
**678 **Following in the steps of the prophets and John the Baptist, Jesus announced the judgment of the Last Day in his preaching. Then will the conduct of each one and the secrets of hearts be brought to light. Then will the culpable unbelief that counted the offer of God’s grace as nothing be condemned. Our attitude to our neighbor will disclose acceptance or refusal of grace and divine love. On the Last Day Jesus will say: “Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.”
679 Christ is Lord of eternal life. Full right to pass definitive judgment on the works and hearts of men belongs to him as redeemer of the world. He “acquired” this right by his cross. The Father has given “all judgment to the Son”. Yet the Son did not come to judge, but to save and to give the life he has in himself. By rejecting grace in this life, one already judges oneself, receives according to one’s works, and can even condemn oneself for all eternity by rejecting the Spirit of love.

and shall do signs and wonders, and the earth shall be delivered into his hands, and he shall do iniquitous things which have never yet come to pass since the beginning. Then shall the creation of men come into the fire of trial, and many shall be made to stumble and shall perish; but those who endure in their faith shall be saved from under the curse itself. And then shall appear the signs of the truth: first, the sign of an outspreading in heaven, then the sign of the sound of the trumpet. And third, the resurrection of the dead – yet not of all, but as it is said: “The Lord shall come and all His saints with Him.” Then shall the world see the Lord coming upon the clouds of heaven.
It seem that the Didache supports a posttribulation rapture, after the Antichrist put the Church on trial!

So i guess that preterist, amillenial and postribulation are the historical end of times christian teaching.

I agree. When folks like LaHaye and Hal Lindsay spend so much time focusing on the Rapture, they are in essence telling us to forget enjoying this life God has given us.
Either you are making this up, or someone lied to you. Make any other claims you want about these 2 people, but NONE of them teach believers to give up enjoying life.

I agree. When folks like LaHaye and Hal Lindsay spend so much time focusing on the Rapture, they are in essence telling us to forget enjoying this life God has given us. I think that is terribly sad. I believe God intended more for us (much like Henri Nouwen said) than fear. Any thoughts?
I think they believe the exact opposite.

Have no fear because when all hell breaks loose, the Lord is going to Rapture you up and spare you from suffering.

Peace,

Ryan 🙂

Are you saying they do teach enjoy life, as like the “health and wealth” prosperity gospel of Joel Osteen, etc.? Is this what you mean?

Thanks
Definately enjoy life. Although many believe in “health and wealth”, not necessarily.

When anything bad happens, like 9/11 the rapturist can say, “Well, we all know things are going to get worse just before Christ raptures us away. Chapter 18 of Revelation is fulfilled. It is obvious the end is near, but at least we won’t be here to suffer through it.” (comfort in the face of evil IF they’re witnessing suffering) So, when things get really bad, they expect to be safely tucked away in Heaven.

Unfortunately, that is not very positive for the person experiencing the suffering.

Peace,

Ryan 🙂

The “end of the world” will happen on the day I die. The day I die will be the “end of the world” for me. The day you die will be the “end of the world” for you too.

We should all live our lives as if it were our last day here on earth and be ready to meet our maker, God.

Additionally, we should not allow ourselves to become “Christian fortune tellers” and try to predict the “End”, nor should we allow ourselves to be caught-up in all the ‘Christian fortune telling” nonsense out there.

Thats too bad for you. Do you wanna know when the end of the world is gonna come for me? It already came. It came the day I died, that is when Christ came into my life.

Too easy.

Left Behind, the rapture, and excessive concentration on the end times encourages those people to be passive in the face of social injustice, instead of encouraging social justice and ethical behavior among all.

I just listened to a TV preacher this morning talking about what he believes is going to happen. Why would we want to be passive about social justice and ecological issues in our own communities and nation because “it is all going to happen anyway”? Personally, I believe that the anti-Christ (maybe even in the person of an end-times preacher) would be more likely to emerge from the US than many other countries.

Human passivity and refusal to repent in themselves, springing from end-times teachings (self-fulfilling prophecy), could cause it to happen. If we all act in imitation of Christ, one more time when it seems like the end will pass by us. There have been many dismal-looking times in world history when the signs were there, but it didn’t happen. Why? Look at Jonah.

Bosh and baloney.

True, specially with fundies inflitrating the US armed forces and with focus in the US Air Force with her nuclear arsenal:eek:
The glee of people like Haggee when supporting war in the middle east let me wonder if the not only are passive if the face of world trouble but actually want to sped up things.
Yes the US is the New Roman Empire, people now talk about a Pax Americana in the same way they talked about Pax Romana 2000 years ago. If there is a Antichrist in will be not in the EU but in the USA.

Are you in Heaven? I didn’t know that the internet was in Heaven. 😃

Well you were able to access CAF, so that’s a good sign. 👍

Just curious, but if you read the Bible in a historical context, which we should, can you see how the anti-Christ was Nero? If we read Revelation and study the history of pre-Christian Rome it is pretty obvious that Nero was all John said the anti-Christ would be. And I agree with your sentiments on Haggee. If he spent more time seeking to help Palestinians as much as he did Israelis things might be a bit different.
