**I was hoping gain insights from a Catholic perspective, what is the purpose of the Great White Throne judgment?

Revelation 20:11-12 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is {the book} of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. **

This is the Last Judgement.

Period.

The idea that the Great White Throne Judgement is something separate is one of the errors of Dispensationalism, which has two or three Second Comings, some half-dozen Judgements, and a handful of Resurrections.

There is no pre-trib rapture. This is a novelty that was never heard of before 1930.

Those who are waiting for it will be among the first toi fall down and worship the Beast. (“How can he possibly be the Antichrist? The Rapture hasn’t taken place yet. And he’s doing all the right things. He’s even made peace for Israel,” They will say.)

Judgment

also

2 Cor 5:10 “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”

Rom 14:10 “Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the** judgment seat of God**;”

Can you support your position?

After you die. First is the “particular judgment” think of this as a private judgment. Then at the end of the world is the “General Judgment” think of this as a “public” judgment. All will see the judgment proclaimed for everyone else. All will see the rewards and punishments. All, good and evil, will see the justice of God.

Judgment for what? Sins, deeds, thoughts etc.? Would anyone need to go to this judgment of they enter heaven without the stain of sin?

As asked, the question is worded in Protestantspeak - it needs to be rephrased, & put into Catholicspeak. 🙂

As you see in the Bible, everyone goes through this judgement. Quite a condundrum for OSAS, eh?

Are you suggesting because of this judgment that people will lose their salvation; I don’t see the connection perhaps you could elaborate on your point for clarification…thanks.

If you die in a state of sin, you are damned. If not, you are saved.

At this point, everyones sins will be made known. Those who are bound for heaven will be shown to have accepted God’s grace. Those headed to hell will be shown to have freely rejected it. No one will be upset because everyone will understand without human limitations how some desired somethign more than God, and they pay for it.

Are you saying Gods grace doesn’t cover all of our sin toward salvation? Where does this judgment take place; I assumed it was in heaven, but now I wonder.

The work of Christ only saves those who repent. If you refuse God’s grace, he does not force it upon you. If you think that Jesus died so you are no longer able to sin, you are in trouble. We can and do still sin. We can ask forgiveness and be forgiven.

You die and you are told where you go. At the end of time, the sins of all are made known so that everything is understood. It is not about a where but a when.

From the answers received; are there two judgments? One when you die; then another for all to see??

Not exactly. You are judged once, and that is it. Later, all of humanity has their judgement made known and why it went like it did.

Think about this. When a jury returns a verdict, the judge is shown it before it is pronounced. At that point, it has been decided. A few minutes later, the verdict is made known. Now, the sentence has not been pronounced twice, nor have they been judged twice. The second one makes it a matter of public record.

Perhaps you could do that for us; this was not very beneficial; I know you can do better.

I don’t know how it would be done best - but it does need doing, by someone competent to do so. 🤷

But what if the Particular Judgement (at death) is the same thing as the General Judgement (at the Resurrection of the dead) ? Unless they are the same, there are are two of them. Which sounds rather artificial & unlikely.

No, I think it is more accurate to say that some people will fail to attain salvation. This is a more mature attitude.

I don’t think you can support this. Why do people weep, and gnash their teeth, if they are not upset?

Matt 8:11-12
11 I tell you, many will come from east and west and sit at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, 12 while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth."

No, God’s grace is certainly sufficient to cover. not all will accept the covering provided. One must don the wedding garment.

Matt 22:11-14

11 “But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment; 12 and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. 13 Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, and cast him into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.’ 14 For many are called, but few are chosen.”

All are called. Only those who recieve the garment provided by the King are worthy to enter.

There are already books dealing with the errors of Dispensationalism.

The Bible is one of them.

Do your own homework.

You don’t actually think you’re saved now, do you?
