Jon - you list yourself as an Evangelical Catholic. I have never heard of an Evangelical Catholic. Could you or someone else please tell me how it is different from Roman Catholic?

If it ever comes up again and you have the opportunity just say because “he, she, we’re, I’m Catholic” The person who said “Why don’t you go to the Baptist Church” And I’m just guessing would not go to a Catholic Church. Plus, be strong in your faith sweetie.

The problem with the Catholic Church and other churches is that the Catholic church preaches another gospel than what the Bible teaches. I am a born again christian - I do not have a denomination because I choose to go where God leads me. The problem is we all have these denomination problems. If we are TRUE born again christians we come together with other christians not by denominations.
I was brought up in the Catholic church but heard the true gospel of Jesus Christ from the Bible as preached by Billy Graham - which I did not get from being Catholic. If you read the Bible (God’s Word) you will know the TRUTH - the true Gospel and not need a denomination even though you go to a certain church.
We cannot be one with the Catholic church because they teach works and not be saved by Faith because it is a Gift of God not of works lest any man boast. The problem with most Catholics is they listen to their priests and pope and not the WORD OF GOD and man is not perfect. Only God’s Word gives us the truth. Paul said if one preaches another gospel let him be anathema.
Also, Peter was married - only Paul was not. Read the Bible for yourself and do not listen to men who can be in error.

Briefly, the Lutheran version of high Church. Different from Roman Catholic in that I am not currently in communion with the Bishop of Rome.

I’ll agree with the last part–you’re a man (or a woman) and you’re certainly in error about the Catholic Church.
Mind telling us where in the Bible it not only listed what Scripture should be IN the Bible, where Jesus told us to preach ‘from the Bible’, and where the Bible itself claims to be the only teaching authority for Christians and to be self-interpreting?

I hope you come back and start a thread. I realize where you are coming from and you yourself are a man and you are incorrect about the Bible and about what the Catholic church teaches.
There can only be one Truth. Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would guide us in truth and that just can’t be happening where there are 33,000 different ideas of truth.
The Catholic church is the only place you willl find the fullness of truth.
Even the Bible says the church is pillar and foundation of truth.

I do hope we make them happy! That’s what I love about the Lutheran church - good strict law, and good happy gospel. At the end of it all, we must enter Gods kingdom like little children. Not like lawyers.

I think the secret to getting them to come is to explain how to decline communion. Perhaps you could go to an earlier mass and invite your friend to a later mass so you can be with them. It’s a very awkward moment to be the only one in the pews. It took me a few times to get used to it - especially when I think I’m better Catholic that Senator Pelosi.Yes, I have the same experience. Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 3:16 “All SCRIPTURE is INSPIRED BY GOD, and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness.” Also in Revelation 22: 18&19 “I testify to everyone who hears thw Words of the Prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God shall add to him the plagues which are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of this book of prophecy, God shall take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city.” Psalm 119: 89:" FOREVER O Lord, THY WORD IS SETTLED(ESTABLISHED) IN HEAVEN." Mark 24:35 says: “Heaven and earth will pass away, but MY WORDS SHALL NOT PASS AWAY.” 2 Peter 1:20 "But know this FIRST of ALL, that NO PROPHECY OF SCRIPTURE is a matter of one’s OWN INTERPRETATION, for no prophecy was ever made by an ACT OF HUMAN WILL, but MEN MOVED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT SPOKE FROM GOD. So you can see The Holy Bible - The Word of God is exactly that GOD’S WORD to us. In reading it we hear His voice and know His will. God left us Truth and did not leave us in the hands of man who is sinful (all fall short) except Jesus.
Also, the Bible does not say the Catholic Church is the pillar and foundation of truth but the foundation is JESUS CHRIST (THE CORNERSTONE) and his church is the true church of believers in Him and who have received Him as their savior - did NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE CATHOLIC CHURCH.

Paul was celibate by choice. Peter was married - just read how Jesus healed his mother-in-law from sickness. Peter was only a man - who believed in Jesus. He was not the first pope. Jesus said He would build his church on the faith that Peter had in who He was not in Peter. We always want to worship a man or woman. Worship Jesus - not the saints.

Just as a matter of curiosity, dear friend, that word of God was not dropped from the heavens. The canon of the Bible which you (quite rightly and no Catholic disputes it) know as the inerrant Word of God was assembled by men. Specifically Catholic men. Obviously God gave men authority to discern this --but you know what? The concept of ‘The Bible’ was never mentioned IN the Bible itself.
So again, the idea that God wanted these and only these inerrant words was given to MEN who obeyed God.
How do you know, for 100% certain sure, that God did not teach and authorize OTHER men in other ways through the Holy Spirit who is guiding us to all truth?
Is the Bible 100% God? Well no, it can’t be. So there is more to the 100% of God than the Bible, isn’t there?
