As a Jew, please believe me when I say love like that, I can do without.
Well, don’t worry too much, my friend. Statistically, you’re infinitely more likely to suffer at the hands of an atheistic communist regime or a paganistic neo-nazi skinhead group than a band of roving Catholic Crusaders.

If you DO wind up being assaulted by any of the above on account of you being a Jew, please let me know. I’d be happy to place myself in harm’s way on your behalf.

Take a quick listen HERE

This may help the conversation along a bit.

Thanks Liza, that is very helpful. I like to download these onto my MP3 player and listen to them when I go walking. 🙂

I wonder if we could find one on the Reformation, I have trouble defending some of the Papal bulls.:o

Now I feel better!

Can you tell me what post you are responding to here? When you say “love like that” are you referring to going to war? Are you saying you can do without war?

What I think our good Valke is saying is that when Catholics go to war out of love for Christ, innocent Jewish communities tend to get wiped out. Not that the Church commands this, but certain rogues may take this action on their own, to the detriment of all (especially perhaps, the Jews?).

I was responding to this post:

The world nevers stops attacking the Holy Catholic Church. Many times she is attacked by Her own members. Only the Catholic Church understands God. St. Bernard of Clairvaux, a great preacher of the Second Cursade said “Rejoice, brave warrior, if you live and conquer in the Lord, but rejoice still more and give thanks if you die and go to join the Lord. This life can be fruitful and victory is glorious yet a holy death for righteousness is worth more. Certainly ‘blessed are they who die in the Lord’ but how much more so are those who die for Him.” The Holy Crusades were about Love and a means of great penance.

I’m saying I can do without the Love that was generated by the Crusades. Jews were often on the receiving end of that love and did not survivie it.

Btw, I only responded recently because I received an email that someone had posted a response to a “subscribed thread”. I posted before I realized this thread was not exactly new.

Yeah not that the Church commands it, but it seems the Church did turn a blind eye on the persecution of jews. Please, prove me wrong. 🙂

I’m aware my Jewish bothers did suffer much from the Crusades. The Church did not turn a blind eye to the Jews, the church passed legislation prohibiting persecution of Jews some where given security in churches and in homes. I understand the some Crusaders where also excommunicated for their behavior. The Church can not control nominal Catholic from their acts.

Lol, I was very surprised to see this thread to come back to life. I can’t believe it’s been so long since it was started. I’m content, so far, to sit and watch this time.😃

My friends I served in the army, and no one detests war more. But did not the Lord send Isreal to war? Is it a sin now and not then? Did the Lord then condone sin? PLEASE stop taking verses of the bible completely and utterly out of context to support your hatred of war (no matter how ugly it is)

Please understand I am in no way defending the church here one way or the other. I can find alot of better examples for you than the crusades if that is your intent–and against the protestants and the muslims and just about anyone else you care to hate or judge.

As much as I see the crusades as ugly they have turned out to be utterly necessarry. That one is really to simple to argue, I would suggest a non-religious history book.

But, why so much hatred? Does someone have a gun to your head saying be catholic or die? Do you hate their hypocracy and judgemental attitude and use that to defend your own? My friend THAT is how WARS happen.
